    Your view is faulty from lack of Scriptural support.

    You have failed to provide a basis for your view from text and context.

    Having asked for what you are reluctant to deliver, has further indicated that your view is build from personal preference rather than actual Scripture.

    "Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right."

    In this passage, the word "child" is the Hebrew word "naar" and is uni-sexual.

    In the Deuteronomy passage, the word "son" is the Hebrew word "ben", and is one who is to inherit the family name and in a more wide use can be that of a grandson. There is no age specification of the word but it is specific to the male excluding female.

    It has been considered that girls are not included because the Jewish folks considered the female more pliable with authority transferred from the father to husband unlike the male son who becomes an adult.

    The text supports an adult.

    No it isn't. It was addressed to children. However, having said that let's look at other Scripture to define what may be considered as children. When Israel was delivered from Egypt and came to the promised Land 12 spies were sent in. They saw the fruitfulness of the land, but they also saw giants in the land. The report that 10 of them gave to Israel was a discouraging report. Israel was condemned to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. That generation would die. Their children would inherit the land. Their children being 20 years and younger.

    The age group being spoken of here is 20 and under, and certainly one in their upper teens can be a drunkard and a glutton. This is not unreasonable at all.

    No it is dealing with an adult son who has become a drunkard and glutton.

    Not according to the Mishnah:

    'A STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS SON': WHEN DOES HE BECOME LIABLE TO THE PENALTY OF A STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS SON? FROM THE TIME THAT HE PRODUCES TWO HAIRS UNTIL HE GROWS A BEARD RIGHT ROUND (BY WHICH IS MEANT THE HAIR OF THE GENITALS, NOT THAT OF THE FACE, BUT THAT THE SAGES SPOKE IN POLITE TERMS), FOR IT IS WRITTEN, IF A MAN HAVE A STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS SON: 'A SON', BUT NOT A DAUGHTER; 'A SON', BUT NOT A FULL-GROWN MAN. WHILST A MINOR IS EXEMPT, SINCE HE DOES NOT COME WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE COMMANDMENTS.

    or the Torah:

    "Whence do we know that A MINOR IS EXEMPT? (Whence do we know? The Mishnah states the reason, viz that HE DOES NOT COME WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE COMMANDMENTS. Moreover, where else do we find that Scripture prescribed a penalty [for a minor], that a verse should be necessary here to exempt him? — This is our question: Now, is then a 'STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS SON' executed for his actual iniquity? Surely he is rather slain on account of his ultimate end; and that being so, even a minor should be executed? Moreover, [the interpretation,] 'a son', but not a man, implies a minor?) Rab Judah said in Rab's name: Scripture saith, If a man have a son [that is stubborn and rebellious], implying, a son near to the strength of manhood." Sanhedrin 68b-71b

    . The context is about an adult son. For a jew an adult can come at an earily age then a gentile but this is not about children.

    If it was an adult son the word would have been Ish instead of ben. The Talmud further defines the "two hairs" as the same indicator for the son to be ready for bar mitzvah or age 13. Before bar mitzvah a child was considered a minor and not subject to the commandments.

    The Jew cannot even understand their own scripture. There is little that they have ever gotten correct or they would not have missed their Messiah. The passage is speaking about an adult or young man in our culture.

    The passage is not speaking about anyone in our culture.

    Ish = man
    ben = son

    The verse uses ben. If it meant an adult it would have called him an adult Ish. If the son was an adult why is he still answerable to his parents? A Jewish male may marry as early as 13 but the Talmud recommends a man marry at age 18. An unmarried Jewish male over age 20 was considered cursed by God.

    If the son is married he leaves his mother and father and cleaves to his wife. So your adult has to be a single male between ages 13 and 18.

    In a patriarchal society which they were, they married and remained with the father many times. The oldest living male was the head and father of them all and called father even by grandchildren. The word could even mean grandson since there was no Hebrew word for that. The person in question is an adult, not a child.

    Considering we "are not under the law, but under grace" (Romans 6:14 KJV) I don't think we'll be out stoning anyone regardless of their age. :smilewinkgrin:
