Christian Adulterers - OSAS?

    Dr. Bob, amen!!!!

    I am amazed at how some continually want to look for ways to negate the grace of God. If we say that the sin of adultery cancels out God's grace, then what other sin does as well? And if we take the verse that tells us that all who look at a woman lustfully have committed adultery already, then I would say that every man in the world would be guilty of adultery and therefore no man would make it to heaven because it would cancel out God's grace.

    Brethren,

    Those who think that adultery cancels your salvation ACQUIRED BY RIGHTEOUSNESS from the Spirit have "forgot" about IMPUTATION. (Rom.4-5)

    Sin is "not" imputed to you.

    Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

    It's a hard doctrine, which many don't BELIEVE or LIKE, but it's the PAULINE DOCTRINAL TRUTH for members of the body of Christ.

    It is possible to be a deacon and a Sunday School teacher for years, and yet be lost.

    It is possible to be carrying on an affair and yet still be among the redeemed.

    God is the One Who knows our innermost hearts and knows our relationship with Him. He alone is Who determines whether or not the profession of faith in Him is sincere.

    God will dialogue with each of us in this matter within the privacy of our souls, and nobody has a sure insight into what that dialogue really is from the outsider's viewpoint!

    Having said that, who among us is going to stand before the wife and other family of that man and say he is going to hell, not heaven? Who can deny that the blood of Jesus is there for all our sin?

    So, that would apply to the practicing drunkard, drug addict, and homosexual, as well?

    I would say it applies to all, however a life of sin gives no evidence of regeneration. Some claim salvation based on the rote repetition of a form prayer when their life is lived in denial of the reality of their having been transformed by the grace of God. As a pastor, I never try to tell the family whether their loved one is in heaven or hell. I simply do not know as only God can see their heart.

    For one to live in sin and place their hope in a crisis experience and a brief prayer, followed by baptism is not a great foundation for experiencing personal security in Christ.

    As I said earlier, our own personal righteousness cannot bring us to Christ and our personal acts of sin cannot wring us from His grasp.

    Has anyone on this forum ever heard what is called

    "The Sin Unto Death??"

    There is a sin unto death. It's whatever sin your doing when God kills you for it.

    There is a bit of (probably intentional) ambiguity on this part. On the one hand, we can say that those who practice sin as a lifestyle are clearly unsaved (1 John 2; 1 Cor 15:1-2; 2 Cor 13:5; Col 1:22-24; Heb 3:12ff.; etc). On the other hand, we know that Christians struggle and sin (1 John 2; Gal 6; 1 and 2 Corinthians; Eph 6; Col 2; etc.).

    Ultimately, we do not know what is going on in the heart. An adulterer may simply not care, or he may be undergoing tremendous conviction. We cannot always tell from the outside.

    We can speak with certainty to the fact that this man has no basis of assurance of his salvation. We can also strongly ... in the strongest terms ... warn him concerning his spiritual jeopardy.

    1 Cor 6 is quoted a point of forgiveness and how true it is. But it says, Such were some of you. The point is that they "were that;" and the clear implication is that they are no longer that.

    1Corinthians 6
    9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
    10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
    11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

    Verses 9 and 10 seem to run the gamut. So I guess it begs the question, if such were some of them, what were the others?
