The irony of this is that leaders like him, LaHaye, etc. teach us this, and a whole Christian counseling philosophy has developed based on this (telling people not to "fear", or be angry, when bad things happen or threaten them; calling these emotions sin, even, and of course, accept "attacks" with peace, contentment and thanksgiving, and forgive, etc). Yet when it comes to some political threat, then it's a different story. (I guess that's "godly" fear, and "righteous" anger, )
but this all the more is what proves to the non-Christian world that Christianity is just the opiate of the people--the very attitude these leaders have complained about. That's one reason Muslims won't listen to us, and Islam is seen as a better religion by many. At least they teach consistently that one defends themselves, and thewy are not going to let us pacify them into submission.

Robertson does hold himself out to be a Christian leader, and it appears that he has many followers. Perhaps the Churches who do not follow him should speak out and make it clear to the rest of the world that he does not speak for Christianity, only for himself.

In all fairness to brother Pat. According to him, he only said to, ". . .take him out."

To me, Senor Presidente simply doesn't like the messiness of the First Amendment. In fact, the vehemence with which he voices his dislike almost borders on laughable.

First off, everyone pretty much knows that means to kill someone.

Secondly, he said more than that:
That's straight from Fox News, the darling of conservative Christians.

People have been arrested and jailed without trial for saying a lot less under the current edition of the Patriot Act. Arresting and jailing Pat might help keep a lot of the grief that will be involved with this incident away from Bush's doorstep. They certainly have the legal grounds to do it.

According to the New York Times:

"But other conservative Christian organizations remained silent, with leaders at the Traditional Values Coalition, the Family Research Council and the Christian Coalition saying they were too busy to comment."

While I am often critical of the SBC leadership, I do applaud President Bobby Welch for distancing the convention from Robertson's remarks:

Of course, I would have preferred that he had used stronger language.

Al Mohler, bless his heart, did a bit better:

But isn't it time for Southern Baptists to call a spade a spade and deny that Robertson is a "recognized Christian leader," especially since he's an ordained SBC minister?

    Enough is enough.

Re the idea that Pat Robertson made a one-time mistake:

Here are some of his previous comments--

--When televangelist Jerry Fallwell said on PR's show that 9/11 happened because...

    PR's reaction was...

    Source: Christianity Today blog, 9/14/01

Riiight, Pat and Jerry: so the 9/11 terrorists were in reality militant gay and lesbian feminazi abortionists in the pay of the ACLU...

Nutty as a fruitcake, the pair of them.

I look forward to seeing Pat Robertson extradited to Venezuela where he may be held without trial in a camp somewhere for attempting to incite terrorist acts against the Venezuelan state.

that would be the ultimate proof to him that the secularists have taken over, and freedom of speech is outlawed.
