Do you feel that Christians and their beliefs are portrayed accurately and fairly? Does the media seem biased and even anti-Christian where you live?

In the media in the U.S. Chrstians are:
    1. Portrayed as crazy and feeble-minded.
    2. Feared, hated, or both.
    3. Chased by spin doctors to make us sound mean spirited, foolish, and hateful.

Yes, absolutely the media (both news and entertainment) are extremely biased against Christ, His teaching, and His people. The worst part of it is how those very media have affected the thinking of so many Christians.

Part of it is the fault of ultra-right wing wackos like James Dobson, Jerry Fallwell and. They leap at every chance they can to get on the news.

As a consequence, the general publice starts to believe that every Christian thinks the way those folks do.

I don't know if any of you happened to see this, but they aired an interview on CNN early this morning that was with a woman who had escaped the WTC. She explained the horrific experience and I think many arond the US could truly feel her fear and her pain, but what I thought was just awesome was when the anchorwoman said"wow, I'm sure you feel incredibly lucky right now" the woman kind of cut her off and said, I feel blessed, I am blessed. Then she said, The only reason that I am standing here right now is because God had his hands on me, he protected me, that was his will. I don't know why."
I know that usually christians aren't portrayed in a positive light via the media but I have to admit that throughout this crisis I have heard more people talking about God on national television then I ever have. I hate that it has to be under these circumstances but, score one for the good guys at least for now! :D

Did anyone see Billy Grahams son on the news tonight? I'm sure that there are many on this board who as soon as they see the name will begin debating the mere mention of him, I just want to make it clear...that's not what this post is about...I'm just excited and thrilled by the fact that while he was on air tonight he had the opportunity to share the plan of salvation! How awesome! He stated that in light of this tragedy, he can only pray that our nation will turn to God, repent,..he went on to quote John 3:16 and explained it and well, I just thought that was neat. Just showed me in a very direct way that indeed all things do work together for good. I knew from the beginning that God could use this situation for his glory and I'm seeing it happen. Before this tragedy occurred, I don't recall hearing this many people professing God's love and telling people about GOd on the evening news!

Yes as a whole, the media shows the christians in a bad light. If you don't fit in their liberal box, you are bad.

For the first time in a long time I hear short testimonies of God's saving power out of calamity now and then, as the aftermath of the WTC & Pentagon terrorist atrocities are covered on TV, radio, and the newspapers. Perhaps it is a wake up call to the nation that, Hey, there is a God after all! [IMG]

If nothing else, with this many deaths, it must have soooo many people reflecting on the fragility of life and I'm sure it has caused many people to examine their life and wonder if it had been them, which it so very easily could have been...are they ready? Makes one think about eternal security an awful lot! It certainly created in me a renewed burn in my heart for all of my unsaved friends/family. It was a harsh reminder to me that I can't wait until it's convienient for ME to witness to these people.

Yes, the media has been a catalyst in ushering in a new morality, where anybody who does not approve of same-sex marriage and a woman's right to abortion is somehow evil, or at the very least, foolish.

I too hope that recent events will help to change everyone's way of thinking. I trust that God will use this to turn hearts back toward Him and His ways. Hallelujah! [IMG]

Do you know what really tics me off about the media is that you will always hear about some Pastor who has done some thing wrong. And how news like that hits the stands more nationally than most any other news out there! The media is attacking Christians and supporting carnallity.

Did you know that a live in partner of a homosexual couple in Mich has the same benifits as a married couple under GM. My father works there and he just found this out like last year. Did this hit the news, yes, in a little commintary supporting it in the detroit free press. Did a pastor who got caught w/ a homosexual partner make the news? You bet cha!

Obviously not saying that is right about what the pastor did, but we are targeted!

No doubt about it James! They may both be mentioned in the paper, but I would say nine times out of ten the one on the pastor would be much closer to the front than the other! (Not to mention size of text etc...)

I think the media's getting better.

Things tend to happen in cycles and the media's had their fun so now I think the pendulum is starting to swing the other way.

I know I've mentioned this before, but the movie, "We Were Soldiers" bent over backwards to portray Christians in a positive light. I haven't seen the latest remake of "The Count of Monte Cristo", but I've heard from Michael Medved that it also portrays Christians and Christianity in a positive light.

    Mike

BTW, James Dobson is an ultra right wing wacko??? What he says sound pretty right on to me and as far as I know, his views are pretty typical of religious conservatives.

Yeah, but I bet if she had said the name "Jesus", she wouldn't have been looked on so graciously. The name "God" is so generic anymore ... it doesn't have NEAR the impact that "Jesus" does.

I don't know if it's just me or not, but I think that Christians (especially "fundamental" Christians) are being attacked and made to looks MORE like whacko's since 9/11. I don't know if it's because Usama and his gang claim to be fundamental Muslims or what. I feel like we're being called "extremists" in a negative light (even a threatening light) if we believe the Bible to be not only the pure, true word of God, but something we are to live our lives by.

Yeah, I saw a lot of the 'testimonies' of God in the lives of survivors, and people looking for answers to the tragedy, but it seems like that viewpoint was short-lived in the media. Now it seems like they're into 'protecting ourselves from those nut-case extremists'.

Maybe it's just me, I dunno.

Perhaps christians get "picked" on because we make such easy targets!
