For those who are uninformed, here's their link:

And I agree with the fact that it was another drive-by posting....

So what's wrong with the John Birch society. Looks like they are trying to defend the constitution as they see it. Are their tactics bad or something?

No, quite to the contrary. They are generally an ardantly patriotic group, strong conservative, pro-military strength..... not necessarily itching for war.... but supportive of troups and government when action is taken.

They are not as politically active as some would have you believe. As with all organizations, there may be small flares seen here or there of action.... usually involving a local group when there's a local issue of magnitude: But, it is basically a study group which assembles with speakers invited to speak on topics of discussion and interest involving legislation, law, government, influences and agendas of sub-groups and how they fit it...... and it is strongly avowed anti-communist anti-socialist.

It's main impact is through 'education' which in the past has been through promoting conservative and expose literature and books, and hosting speaking engagements. Many who have left the organization do so because they find the group to be too pragmatic, or too conservative, or of limited viewpoint....narrow minded. Others leave dissatisfied with the over indulgence and focus upon knowledge and discussion of issues and problems without drawing any solutions or formulating actions.

Unbeknownst to many of its membership, its earlly founder was the recipeint benefactor of Rockafeller support. While this marginal involvement has never seemed to curb the sincerity of strong conservative leanings of the group. Nevertheless, for some such as I, this early involvement by such stauch and liberal globalist/socialist suggest that the JBS organization functions very well at giving the opposition a voice which is controlled and benign, relative to the plans and designs of people like the Rockafellers influence and workings in and through their finances to shape government.

At least that is my opinion based upon what little contact I've had with people in that group. I would not classify the group as 'hatemongering' nor 'bigoted'. There may be individuals who are..... but there are those present in any large body of people..... but the group cannot be characterized as such.

I love how we're all Birchers, now, because we challenged him.

"Closet Bircher" is a contradiction in terms, as uninformed a remark as the accusations of "secret organization" forty years ago. But the unwilling never learn. The most we can do is mock them, as with our old, old bumper sticker "I'm a secret member of the John Birch Society."

The JBS stands for lower taxes, less govenment, and more personal responsibility. Its founder was a conspiracy theorist who thought that the Communists wanted to overthrow the American tradition and put a Communist government in its place.

Birchers tend to be weird, but I've been in plenty of meetings of socialists, greens, and biblical apostates besides antiabortion, conservative, and neo-nazi meetings and I've discovered that all activist causes attract weird people with weird ideas. Birch was no different, except that they had strict rules against some things, like antisemitism, and they expelled the incorrigible.

When you hear that a man is a Bircher, you can expect him to believe in lower taxes and less government; you can expect him to know the U.S. Constitution better than anyone else you know (barring academic scholars); and you can expect him to oppose antisemitism and illegal activities. Most accusations beyond that are mere slurs and serve not to inform, but to provoke mindless reaction in order to further some ulterior cause.

More like they expelled those who thought free speech meant they could actually speak freely and debate any subject.

I will take the JBS anyday over the special interests, lobbyists, and corporate thugs that control the machinery of both major parties.

Basically a sound, patriotic group. I was a fee paying Bircher in the mid-late 70s. I left because I felt like there was not much room for dissent from the 'party line.' (Kind of like the BB :) )

Still, I leaned a lot and they shaped much of my conservative viewpoint.
