I do not condone much of his rhetoric, however the viciousness with which cals have worked to destroy him reaches epic levels.

You are absolutely right. (And this was why I was hesitant to mention him). I took much of his comments with a grain of salt, thought he was more personality than substance, and was wrong in his rhetoric. I did enjoy his class. But he paled in comparison to many who went after him.

You do understand covenants work both ways? You see it is Village Church issuing the apology? She tried work to within the bounds of the covenant, it was the church that acts without grace at least that is what the apology said.

Yeah, let's play that out with Jesus' earthly family. Swoop in, call Mary a victim, and kill Joseph for having relations with an underage girl. Nice.

The issue, from a biblical perspective, is NOT the "child" aspect. The issue is that he was unfaithful to his wife.

This pedo- issue is purely a societal one. Every society up until 100 years sgo, even biblical ones, accepted puberty as an acceptable age.

Christians need to stop being dragged around by society. In fairness, that's what this church is guilty of, too. The politically correct way. Neato.

How do you know that Joseph was not young, too? Besides - God told him to marry Mary.

The comment about killing the alleged pedophile is uncalled for and not a part of our judicial system. He has not even been proven guilty. The comment should be deleted.

This would be a tough situation for any local church. From the information given, it seems the leadership is either very weak or without common sense. Except for some minor exceptions Paul talks about, the only Biblical reason for divorce is adultery. I really do not know if this would be in that category or not. If I was the wife and had decided to divorce him, I would not care if the church accepted my resignation or not. I would move on. Should she have attempted reconciliation? I think it gets back to do these actions fall into the realm of adultery from a Biblical standpoint. If these charges are true, I am sure the wife was worried about any future children, and probably did not care what the technicalities were. I certainly would not give a hoot what the elders thought.

Its a sad situation with no easy answers. I do believe a marriage can be restored if an offender is caught in what we call traditional adultery. This is different. Its really not adultery, but in a way much more dangerous and next to impossible to restore trust.

As far as church discipline, she did nothing wrong. She has withdrawn her membership, therefore church discipline for her does not exist. Its kind of like a wife that is getting hit everyday. The Bible does not make that a reason for divorce, but who I going to put up with that. That leaves church discipline for the husband. If found guilty, he should be disfellowshipped. As another poster pointed out, each local church handles things differently. Nothing easy about this one. Really sad.

Uh, CHILD porn is ABSOLUTELY an issue. To try and downplay it as somehow caving to political correctness is shocking. Not just a societal issue it is also a biblical issue. This not an either/or issue, it is a both/and issue.

Yup. Old enough to be made to register for the Roman census, which was a property taxation issue. Not a young'n. Sorry

And God telling him to marry her? They were already betrothed when she became pregnant. God was endorsing the age difference - him a grown man and her a teenage woman
