This may sound like a strange request, but my wife and I are looking for a church home in the Nashville, TN area that still uses the "red book" - "Church Hymnal"..... or similar traditional song books...

Can anyone suggest churches we could visit?

    GOD Bless,
    -Richard.

There may not be many on the BB who live near Nashville? Sorry, I can't help ... don't live in TN. BUT, we do use the red book hymnals. [IMG]

Only church I know anything about there is "The People's Church" (http://www.thepeopleschurch.org/)
I have some relatives that go there and love it, but it sounds like it's probably too contemporary for you.

Are you talking about shaped-note hymnals?

Just take your own red book cover and put it on the hymn book in front of you; that way it will be the red book.

    Red Book?

I remember a 'burgandy' covered hymnal I used from 90 to 96 at MorningStar Fellowship.

It just said 'Baptist Hymnal' on the front of it.

My favorite songs in it were

    Victory In Jesus page 120
I'd Like To Talk It Over With Him page 42
The Old Rugged Cross page 305

For those of you who don't know what the "red back" or "red book" is that Richard refers to, here it is with a description. Although it is the Church of God hymnal this is what we use in our church. You can hear our church singing one of the songs here... Old Campmeeting Days

Description: maroon hardcover hymnal contains 410 older hymns in shape notes as well as a topical index and a general index. A few of the titles contained in the hymnal are: Amazing Grace, Blessed Assurance, How Firm a Foundation, Nearer, My God to Thee, Rock of Ages, There is a Fountain, and What a Friend We Have in Jesus.

May I ask why you would want to base your decision on a church home on the type of hymnal they use?

He's just joking with you, Richard. He didn't mean anything by it.

Oops! That's not the red hymnal we use. On the other hand, we used a white one before that. And a blue one before that. :D

Oh no! Not the dreaded "Red Book Hymnal". No where in scripture can I find it appropriate. We use a green one.
I will pray your deliverance. [IMG]

Your pre-requisite on where to attend is based on the hymnal they use?

Though I'm sure it's not new, it's the first time I've heard that request. We use the '91 Baptist Hymnal (Brown Cover). We also use a "chorus book" that my predecessor put together and that I frequently add to.
