How does the name "Second Chance Baptist Church" sound as a name of a church?

This is no joke. I have a friend who is considering this name for their church.

    Thoughts?

At first hearing, I honestly don't know. I kind of like it, but then again I could analyze it to pieces. Sorry.

BUT I don't tend to really care about the church name - I care much more about the church people ;)

We baptists come up with the most.....shall we say....unique Church names?

I suppose it is beter than 2nd Baptist Church of anytown USA.

Here in Indiana there is an Exit 59 Church :)
that is the actual name. It is on exit 59 on Interstate 69 in between Indianapolis and Ft. Wayne.

Personally I prefer names that are geographic, like the anytown Baptist Church etc.
But the important thing of course is the doctrine of the church, not the name on the sign.

It sounds like a singles church for divorced people. Also, salvation isn't a matter of chance.

    Perhaps you'd prefer "Second Opportunity"?

:laugh: It doesn't really fit my personal soteriology, either, but that's not why I'd turn it down. It doesn't have much of a ring to it. "Second Opportunity Baptist Church" is too much of a mouthful.

Regarding the original title, on second thought, it sounds more like a church for ex-cons. ;) Now - one could argue that fallen man is a prisoner, but an ex-con? I don't that that metaphor works.

How about the name Little Hope Baptist Church?

There's actually one with that name in Montgomery County, TN, (just outside of Clarksville,TN) which is located in NW Middle TN along the TN-KY state line!

In fact, the daughter of one of my friends had her wedding at Little Hope BC.

I would have thought there would be little hope of that catching on. Bit I'd have been wrong, I guess. ;)

I am all about naming churches for where they are located rather than some goofy names.

BYKOTA Baptist Church (be ye kind one to another)

Living Word Baptist Church (Like it had died elsewhere??)

Definitely not First Baptist Church. I want to see a name more like Three Hundred Thousand Two Hundred and Forty Third Baptist Church.

The only problem I have with naming a church after a location is that when they move, you've either got to rename them or for perpituity tell people the story about the the name.

Or like Travis Ave Baptist - Travis Ave is now a little dinky side street. The big street is something else and everyone says, "Why did they name this church Travis Ave?" Which can be answered by pointing, but it's tough for visitors.

    RE: Church name?

Try this church name: 18 Mud Fork Church.....it is a United Baptist(Old Line Baptist) church in the Union Bethlehem Association. It is located in, I think, Logan county, WVA.

I still shake my head when I hear this name. I know that the name isn't near as important as the doctrine of the church is, but 18 Mud Fork church is quite unique. LOL

I believe that is Second Baptist Church in Houston, not "Second Chance", actually.

As for the name, who else cares, and BTW, 'Little Hope Baptist Church' is, I believe, named for the community in which it is located.

My own home church is named the 'Forks of Dix River' after the area in which it is located, although the Dix River does not actually have any forks in the area, but the area has always been known as that, since the 1780 settlement, and the church has been here since she was organized in 1782, and is the the third oldest extant Baptist church "West of the Alleghenies".
