    I really think that I was taught that it was Mexico's Independence Day and never questioned it.

    Not one of the important details that I needed to remember. I had a college professor that said we didn't need to clutter our brains with information that we did not need. Of course, we never know when we are going to need something that we conveniently forgot or thought was just clutter. [​IMG]

    I might have taken him too seriously and cleaned out too much clutter. [​IMG]

    I live in "old Mexico", since they owned all the land of the West douth of the Platte and in the Colorado drainage.

    But I am amazed at how "foreign" Mexicans, Spanish language, their worship, culture, etc. is for me. It is like a different world.

    Find a close bond with neighboring Canada but not with Mexico.

    Appreciate the good comments on this thread . . and the history lesson! :eek:

    Semantics, semantics. Of course it's Mexican Independence Day. Just as our own could be celebrated on the anniverary of the battles of Concord and Lexington, or the battle of Yorktown (which sealed the victory and should be commemorated properly) or even the ratification of the Constitution.

    Holidays are a creation of the culture and do not follow exact chronology (just think of Christmas.) Listen to John Adams:

    He was more right than wrong; the date is in dispute (bureaucrats, you know), but that has no bearing on the fact that this nation did declare its independence.

    Pass the Black Cats, please.

    Sure Joshua, you meant that drinking just one drink of hard liquor in a drink (not purified water or new wine) at a reduced cost for that one drink caused you and your colleagues great pleasure.
    KMart's got a clearance sale going on, watch out now so you don't go into convulsions of pleasure! I hear they even have strapped men's sandals on sale, similar to what Jesus would have worn! :rolleyes:
