A friend is reading a book by Clarence Larkin and asked me if I knew anything about him. He said he had some strange ideas and wanted to know if he should lay the book down. I know Larkin is a dispensationalist so please don't base your response on that. Are there any other "quirks" Larkin might have to make people stear clear of him.

I don't think I would throw all dispensationalists in with Larkin.I think dispensationalism is a useful tool for Biblical interpretation. Unfortunately it can easily be taken tooooo far, which it is by some.
Now I have read some of Larkin and he turns me off. Ryrie is a dispensationalist and he well balanced whether you agree with him or not,he is not inclined to go off the deep end.He also takes the time to point out views other than his own and why he agrees or disagrees with thier views. The body of dispensationalist is actually quite large it is just not quite as vocal on this board as some are.

Dispensational Truth was a textbook for a class I took once. I really liked it. Clarence Larkin was trained as a draftsman and engineer and his charts are breathtaking in their complexity and beauty. Even if you don’t agree with every point of his theology he is worth reading and as an engineer I think his artwork is absolutely breathtaking.

Read it and enjoy it and forget what you think is wrong if you have Biblical basis for your thinking.

He has some stuff that is ?? but some good stuff.

His charts are available for e-sword if any want to look at them. http://www.e-sword.net/graphics.html

He also has a small book on Revelation.

Remember, his charts were done for lectures and were converted to be shown on an oil lite slide projector so they are a little old [IMG]

Peter Ruckman refers much to Larkin if that means anything to you. I happen to like Ruckman and had dinner with him once. Very nice man. [IMG]

Someone gave me a copy of Dispensational Truth when I was about ten years old. I enjoyed it, especially the charts. I put Larkin in the same category as several other authors I read when I was younger. Although I now know that some of his stuff was questionable, at the time he spurred me on to further reading and research. I consider that a good thing.
