Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said Monday that people today are more race-conscious and politically correct than ever before, and that he has endured far worse treatment at the hands of northern liberals than supposedly racist southerners.

Thomas, who is currently the only black member of the Supreme Court, made his remarks on race during a speech at Palm Beach Atlantic University, according to Yahoo News’ Chris Moody. Contrary to the stereotype of southerners as racist, Thomas said he has overcome more discrimination in the North than in the South.

“The worst I have been treated was by northern liberal elites,” he said. “The absolute worst I have ever been treated. The worst things that have been done to me, the worst things that have been said about me, by northern liberal elites, not by the people of Savannah, Georgia.”

Thomas is no stranger to actual racism. Throughout his career he has been called an “Uncle Tom” — a derogatory term for a black person who is perceived as being subservient to white people–by liberals who don’t like his conservative policies. Last June, Minnesota state Rep. Ryan Winkler, a Democrat, called Thomas an Uncle Tom, although he later apologized and said he didn’t know the phrase was considered derogatory.

I was born and raised in the South, but have lived in New England for over 30 years, and I can tell you that many Northerners are very racist against blacks.

They hate Jews even more than blacks.

Who's they? Most Northern liberals are Jews and Blacks. What they hate most is the Southern neocons.

I can identify with what Mr. Thomas said.
My wife and I have travelled to a few white churches in the South, and was treated respectfully as brethren.
In contrast, we went as far north as the Niagara Falls region in search of a church, back in '06, when we moved to upstate New York, and except for the one church which we finally regularly attended, a Reformed Baptist church, in other churches we were met with indifference and nary a limp handshake.
We attended a Sacred Harp convention in Rochester, my wife sat herself among the white ladies and they moved away from her, left and right, till she was sitting looking silly by her lonesome self.

Come on Pinoy....Upstarted NY. Are you seriously going to compare that to The NYC Metronome area? Bet if you went to Brother Padres place you would be very welcome. Now if you come to NJ they treat everyone like your gonna rob the house and steal the jewels. Thats how we roll.

I can verify that as well. We lived in Maine for 15 years and that was my impression that much of the citizenry there is very prejudice.

Maine's best kept secret: It's the oldest and whitest State in America.
When we lived there the white population was around 98%.

We wern't there very long when my wife and I wondered if there were any non-whites in the State at all.

There are racial slurs used there that I had never heard before even in the south.

In fact they took displeasure even from the visiting tourist calling them "flatlanders" and were the brunt of a whole host of jokes and "downeast humor".

We were called "transplants" and were well tolerated but were still considered second rate citizens of a sort.

One year the govenor went public with a plea to stop the adverse talk because it was affecting the tourist trade.

I was born and raised in the South. When I moved up North, everybody just assumed I was a racist because I have an accent.

But the truth is, I never saw racism in Alabama like I did when I moved up North.

I was part of an AoH division and let's just say the "N" word flowed as freely as the alcohol (which, if you know anything about the AoH, is quite a lot).
