Christian ministers from Memphis's Second Presbyterian, Christ United Methodist, Christ the King Lutheran, First Evangelical, and numerous other churches announced they value diversity and will advocate for peace and equal opportunity policies:

Memphis Commercial Appeal

recent events in our nation have caused some to feel belittled, marginalized, and threatened. We Christian pastors want to express our heartfelt concern and our solidarity with all of the people in our community. The African-American, Muslim, and Hispanic immigrant communities have especially expressed concerns to which we want to respond.

we want each of these neighbors—in many cases, brothers and sisters in Christ—to know that we hear and deeply value you. We thank God for the diversity of this city, whose well-being and culture you have contributed to so richly.

The group's spokesperson, Pastor Sandy Willson of Second Presbyterian, urged everyone to remember the Good Samaritan:

Jesus could not have been clearer about that when he told the parable of the Good Samaritan: the neighbor whom God commands us to love cannot be narrowly defined to include only those who share our ethnicity, religion or nationality."
