The clown hides himself, that is deceit. He portrays himself as another, that's the lie

When I was a kid...my parents took me to Barnum and Bailey's three ring circus...and the clowns were my favorite part.

Clowns also have a serious job at the Rodeo.

One of the members here is a semi-professional clown...maybe they will post later. (no, it's not me)

On Open House Sunday at my church...there are always clowns...they try to make it fun for the bus kids...a few of my friends are in this anual ministry.

Oh yea, and I used to make my face up like a clown when I was 10 or 11...Mom's got pictures.

    Sister WisdomSeeker,
I ain't got nothin' against clowns dressin' up--they can do what they want--they can do it in church, banquets, outings, just whereever--its just that I ain't gonna do it---I don't think there's a clown big enough to get Blackbird to put makeup on---maybe its my neighboorhood upbringing---maybe I need medicine, maybe I need to lay down on a couch and have a doctor probe my mind--get my mind out in the open . . .!

    Your brother,
    Blackbird

When I was a paramedic, I used to pick up a little money on the side at Cowtown Rodeo, a PRCA sanctioned rodeo in South Jersey and those guys get really annoyed when you call them clowns.

    They prefer "bullfighters".

There was a movie a few years ago called "Shakes the Clown" and the rodeo clowns...er, bullfighters, where always beating the snot out of the circus clowns.

I sense some clownaphobia going on here! Perhaps it was that old Stephen King movie that did it, what was the name, Candyman, or something like that.

Clowns of America International web site:

    http://www.coai.org/

You can read about the history of clowning on that site.

Clowns? I'm more concerned about wolves who appear in sheep's clothing, myself. :D

Clowns are at one end of the spectrum, and women who wear make up are at the other end!

Wearing of make up is the covering up of who God really created, or trying to hide who God really made!

In other words, "You are not happy with how God made you! :(

As for clowns as entertainment, I don't believe there is any thing wrong with them as long as Christ is fore most in your and thier life! [IMG]

Happy New Year to all! [IMG]

I agree with you Olive, besides the deceit there is something strange about men who wear white face paint, red lipstick and blue eyeliner.

I remember Weeping Willie (I think the name was), one of the most famous clowns that ever performed. There was nothing scary about him at all. He portrayed the more pathetic side of life, and as I recall, elicited more of an 'ahhhhh' reaction from people.

I loved him. I loved the warmth he made people feel.

From what I have seen, professional clowning is a very serious business which has to do with entertainment, not deceit. When I think of deceit, I think of someone trying to manipulate a situation in order to benefit himself. I don't see professional clowns doing that. They do earn their living clowning, but that is different than the idea of manipulating a situation deceitfully for personal profit.

But for those who feel that deceit is involved, how do you feel about any other actors or actresses, even in Christian films? They are pretending to be what they are not...

Agreed! And very well articulated. [IMG]

As an addendum, or how do you feel about certain politicians who pretend to be what they are not in order to get elected?

Or how do you feel about preachers who pretend to be what they are not?

Clowns for entertainment are not the same as sheep in wolves clothing, IMO.
