"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." Colossians 1:15

What does it mean here that Christ was the firstborn over all creation? Did God create Christ? I know this can't be right, but I'm trying to figure this verse out. Please help!!!

There are some verses in John that may help you out with that.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God"
    John 1:1

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
    John 1:14

So you see, Jesus wasn't created by God, Jesus is God.

I think it means He was before all creation. As "In the begining God" Gen.1:1 To me means, in the very begining, there was God before there was anything. He has always exsisted, as when Jesus says in Rev. 'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Begining and the End', we always take that to mean He always has been , and always will be.
Not sure that makes sence, but just some thoughts I had on your question.

Firstborn refers to his position -- he is above all creation.

Don't think of "firstborn" as connoting order of birth. It also had to do with privilege. The Scriptures are saying that Christ is the rightful heir of the Father. Creation is his birthright.

It means "firstborn", or first resurrected from, the dead.
