Do you think most of us have an occasion to look for comfort in food; when is this healthy and when is it not so healthy? What is your comfort food?

I think we look for comfort in a lot of things. Our favorite worn-out nightgown, shirt, or shoes, favorite TV programs, best friends, favorite pets, songs, sleeping in the rain, and more.

Sure we look to food for comfort. It think it's OK as long as food is not filling an emotional need.

Eating comfort food because it tastes good or brings a temporary "MMMMMM" to our lips is fine.

To me, comfort food is something hot, like my dad's potato soup or my mother's spaghetti.

Also, when I am stressed, a bite or two of something chocolate is quite comforting! Ha! :flower:

My relationship with comfort food is definitely not healthy as I eat when I am nervous, worried, bored, upset, etc. A big part of this is that food has always been associated with family and closeness, so even when i am alone I feel like I am closer when eating. [Does that make sense?]

As far as what my comfort food is, I have several. Ice cream is a big one for me. So is spaghetti (we used to make it a family affair when we made it). Hot dogs bring back memories of fishing and camping trips. Fried potatoes, fried okra, pinto beans, and corn bread make me feel like I am back in my granny's kitchen. Fresh baked bread reminds me of holidays with my family. Mashed potatoes and mac 'n cheese reminds me of when our daughter was little.

For me comfort foods remind me of when I was a kid and my family all lived together, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and warm from the pan chocolate pudding, and dad's breakfast gravy loaded with black pepper. Now most of these I do not cook often, saem reason i do not cook my favorite foods often, control over how much I eat, if I can not trust me to control I will not cook it. And some of the old comfort foods I will no longer cook again, ever.
