All this talk about food. Y'all are making me hungry!!
We can get White Castle burgers at the grocery store (never tried them), and we have Krystal Restaurants. I don't like Krystal's burgers so I get the chicken sandwiches.

Not much going on around here, just getting packed and ready for the trip.:wavey:

Now that's interesting how far east, SE, and NE White Castle has made it. None in OK that I know of. White Castle started in St. Louis, MO. I have been to the original several times in downtown St. Louis.
It really IS an acquired taste, and I have never acquired it. Far too oniony!

HHmm. I like onions, maybe I would like White Castle. Will be going to the store today or tomorrow, maybe I'll pick up a package or two.

(I don't remember if I've ever seen a White Castle restaurant.)

Oooh! I just thought about In-n-Out Burger! Maybe we'll get a chance to eat there while in Vegas.

Gayla: At least you can take your bottles and toothpaste on the plane now - as long as they're the travel size (6oz) and in a clear zip lock bag! That should make packing somewhat easier for you.

I have never had a 'real' White Castle, but I've had the frozen ones and I love them. Aldi's carries them now, so I will be picking up a few packages!

School has been slow today with Brent not feeling well, but we're just about finished. We took a quick break for a sloppy joe and chips for lunch (Brent did - I didn't eat). I'm saving my appetite for supper!

    Back to school...

Oh my goodness! I've got 20 whole minutes of peace and quiet!!!!!! Rob (5) and Jo (3) both fell asleep (this cold has knocked them out) and the girls don't get home until 3:20! I DO have to get changed into my riding clothes and get ready to go since I don't have a lot of time but have a lot of riding to do but WOW!! I haven't had this quiet in a LONG time!!

AHHHHHH - I should sneak in a quick cup of tea and a pumpkin muffin (which turned out delicious, BTW)

I'm sorry folks but White Castles are just downright nasty!!!! Ya'll must be tastebud challenged to eat those thing. Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!!!!!!

I've been out spending T's paycheck before he even gets it. (not really, but payday is tomorrow and I spent with that in mind) . Got some really good deals on meat and so got enough to last almost the month. Depends on how creative I get with the leftovers. Went to the thrift store and found Jenna some very nice pants and jeans. The prize was a pair of Tommy Hilfiger dress pants for Chris for just $1.50! Spent about $50 and got 11 pairs of pants, 2 jackets and 3 shirts all new or nearly new. Can't complain about that! Now all I have to do is find Jenna some tops to go with some of the pants and get Chris a dress shirt or two and they'll be set up for fall/early winter. Except for shoes. All three have got to have dress shoes. I hate buying shoes! It seems like I'm always buying shoes.

Annsni, pumpkin muffins sound yummy. I had a recipe for them somewhere around, I need to dig it out. Hmmmm......

Yes, but I think they have to be quart-size ziplocs that have the actual zippers. I'm not sure if you are limited to one or can take several.

Hey, everyone! Miss not chatting with y'all. I've been busy with the new church plant and that pesky secular job that keeps vittles on the table.....

White Castle? Ain't that those tiny, oniony, beef-flavored grease chunks with the holes in 'em? Yuk!

Hey there, annsni! How's things on Lawwwng OY-laan? No spectacular leaves upstate this fall. Our trees are half bare. Went from green to brown to ground in about a week. Time to tune up the snowmobile...err....I meant snowBLOWER. Have to work before play.

    Blessings to all of you.

Hey padre! Glad you stopped by!

Karen: I'm really not sure about the size. The picture in the newspaper showed a man holding a clear bag in his hand and I could see his hands. It could very well have been quart size. I know the first day, the airlines let people bring on gallon size simply because it was the first day (which doesn't make much sense to me)...

    Good morning all,

It is a cool 45º this morning with an expected high of 62º and sunshine. The rain should be moving in tomorrow.

Anyone know how expensive and SAFE wood stoves are? Would one heat a whole house and is it hard to regulate?

Cilco is raising their rates by 55% in January!!! They just had a raise last winter and one of our electric bills was higher than our mortgage payment! I don't know how we (or anyone else) is going to pay it this year!

I wonder if an elderly person, on a fixed income, froze to death because their heat was turned off due to lack of payment - could Cilco be charged with murder???

Yep! I'm just a tad upset over this new development! [IMG]

    Off to fix breakfast,

    Morning Everybody,

I brought in Sausage-Apple Quiche, and Peach and Sausage Waffles for breakfast. Enjoy.

Brenda and I are getting away for the weekend, we'll be back late Monday. Brenda made me promise that I don't cook this weekend, so I guess we'll be having soup, sandwiches, and ocassional restaurant food.

    I'll see everybody next Tuesday!

I wonder how long it will be before they ban false teeth onboard the planes.......they are legal weapons; they bite!

Hydro rates here in ontario will be climbing again this winter as well....Fixed income! I heat with wood, but village house uses fuel oil and it too is climbing.

    Good day to all!

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Sue,
Have you thought about a pellet stove?
I was at Lowe's a few minutes ago. Saw one for $1200. I don't know how that compares with prices of woodburning ones. But a contractor I know is very fond of pellet stoves. You have to buy the bags of pellets. However, they are compact, clean, and you don't have to chop wood.

No, I hadn't, Karen. I just looked them up online though and they would be much better than a wood stove. For one thing, they don't require a flue and chimney.

I guess what I'm wondering is if they heat the whole house and if so how? Or are they just good for one room? We had a space-heater when I was growing up instead of a furnace and we only had two rooms. It only heated one...

Sue, A pellet stove does have a flue,,it vents out through the wall. They are more economical than a woodstove, and burn cleanly. You load the pellets in a hopper and forget it for a few days.

A shop here heats 4000 sq ft with a pellet stove. They load it every two days. It can be installed very close to a combustible wall and has a fan unit moving the air over the unit....it actually feels warmer 20 feet from the stove than standing right in front of it. It is also more insurable than a regular woodstove, and much cleaner in operation.

They are expensive to buy, but it is my choice should my woodstove need replacing, or we want a fireplace in the living room...yeppers, the also make pellet burning fireplaces. For an average sized house, the cost runs about $350.00 a season,,up here.......Keep in mind, any heating unit has difficulty heating remote corners and closed off areas,,they will always be cooler, but not unbearable.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Howdy everyone!

    Watch it Preacher! ;)

Been running around doing stuff today. Just stuff, and not anything very productive. It just all had to be done.

The kids are back down with migraines, grrr! Here's hoping the new meds work and kick in soon! Cassie's new pain med seems to be working pretty good. She was hit during the night and now is up moving again. That's pretty good if it lasts. Chris is stuck as far as pain meds go, until he grows some more or gets older.

Gayla and Rob, ya'll have fun getting away from it all.

Sue, I grew up with wood stoves. How much of your house they will heat depends entirely on how your house is built and where in your house you put it. If you have a central location that all the rooms open into, you can probably heat a small/medium house with a wood stove.

Things you have to think about are:

where's the wood coming from and how much will it cost per load(around here a load of split wood is $65 for what will fit in the bed of a pickup and not heap up either. When I was a kid we owned land in the country and dad cut the wood we needed and my brother split it),

how long will a load last (if you are paying $65 a load and a load only lasts a week, are you really saving anything?)

who's carrying the ashes and where will they be disposed of, (ashes are heavy, messy, hot and a fire hazard until they are cold)

what will you do for heat at night because it's not safe to keep them burning while the family is asleep at night, (we slept cold but used electric blankets. Our cold is nowhere near your cold.)

who's getting up in the cold to start the days fire and,

how much will installation cost and how much will yearly chimney sweepings cost?

Another thing to think about is your breathing problems. Wood smoke is not usually beneficial to folks with breathing problems. There will be a certain amount of smoke every time you have to feed the fire.

55% is outrageous! The folks in your cooperative or state need to get together and complain big time. You state must not have an overseeing authority for public services like Alabama does. I don't think Alabama Power could get away with that big of a hike. The Alabama Public Service Commission has to approve all rate hikes. The most I've ever seen it go up was 7-8% and that even was a few years ago. We had a small increase last year, but no where near 55%.

Have you looked into food allergies as triggers for the migraines? It sounds like they have them so frequently that I'd look into that since nothing else seems to help. Just a thought!

Well good morning, and good night! I'm about ready to fall into bed, but first I'm running through here and then I have to do my math. (online class)

    Hope everyone is doing alright!
