Ann, IMHO they taste just as good.

I'm making the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake for a birthday party tomorrow, and the Chocolate Bliss Cake for our dessert tonight.

    Hello.

It is a brilliantly sunny day to-day and not so cold either. Love it. Even in mid-winter, when the sun shines brightly it is a glorious day. Reminds me of the Lord shining in our hearts...always brilliant and glorious.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Jim, we had quite a hard frost last night but is soon cleared. It is bright and sunny now. It's that time of year when the plants have to be brought in and the greenhouse shut up every night. Winter is acoming.

    Blessings :flower:

    Good morning all,

It is 30º this morning and I'm NOT looking forward to winter!

We had a good prayer meeting last night and a sermon on 'bridling the tongue'. Oh my...

It's school and laundry this morning. I was out most of the day yesterday and I am looking forward to staying in today.

    Y'all have a good one!

Hey everyone! I'm on for only a few minutes to clear out my e-mails and then it's back to school with Robby - we've gotten a little behind and I want to be caught up by the end of this weekend. We're up on reading and math but still need to catch up on phonics, history and handwriting. Then later on, I'm going riding - have my trainer coming so it should be a good ride - then home, FAST shower and off to friends' for dinner. I hope the girls don't have a lot of homework!

Tonight is my niece's 16th birthday.

She has already asked me to make Chocolate-Cluster Peanut Butter Cake for her birthday. Becky (aka STINKER) called me this morning and the 1st words out of her mouth were "Papa, how much do you love me"? I should have known I was in trouble.

Stinker wanted her "absolutely favorite" dinner. Okay-Okay, I'm a sucker for a pretty face.

So tonight's dinner is going to be Roast Turkey with Apple, Cranberry, Pecan Dressing, Prep-ahead Mashed Potatoes, Maple Glazed Baby Carrots, Citrus, Bacon, and Pecan Salad, and New York Style Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake.

I've got most of it done, just waiting for the turkey and the cheesecake to get done. Who says it isn't hard to be an Uncle?

Especially when my nieces know they have me wrapped around their little finger.

    I see you, Jim! :wavey:

    Good morning all!

It is cold again here this morning. 18ºF to be exact. Would that be around -7ºC? Anyway, it's cold! [IMG]

I have to make a list of the ingredients I need to start baking Christmas 'goodies'. I am getting a late start this year! I send several small boxes each year and the 'out of country' boxes need to be sent in a couple of weeks to insure delivery.

Time for breakfast (might have a cup of coffee first),

    Good Morning Everybody,

I hear you Sue, it's about 20 degrees here, but Sunday is supposed to be 50.

Time for breakfast, I brought in Pancakes, Sausage, Bacon, Hashbrowns, and Eggs. Should satisfy everybody. Enjoy.

Last nights birthday party was great. My Niece really enjoyed herself. I know she had her "absolutely favorite" meal but; I've never seen Stinker eat so much in her life. Must be a warm-up for Thanksgiving. LOL.

Today we pay bills, get groceries, and eat lunch in town. I just can't figure out why we go through so many groceries. :tongue3:

Oh well, if people didn't enjoy it I wouldn't make it, and I have to keep practicing the only skill I have or I'll lose it. If I keep practicing someday I'll get it right.

Time to head into town, the grocery just called and they need us to get groceries so they can meet payroll.

LOL FoG! I feel that way too sometimes. Our grocery bill here lately has topped $800 a month. I wonder where it all goes too......

    Good Morning Everyone!

At least it is much better than yesterday! Yesterday was spent getting shots for migraines. Yes, plural. Both Cass and Chris were totally knocked down by their migraines. Chris is sooo much better this morning, but yesterday's shot was his second in a week. I hope it lasts. Cass I'm afraid, isn't much better, but today will be her third day with it and hers almost always disappear on their own by the third day. I'm letting her sleep this morning and will hopefully get her to school a little later.

I've got more sewing to do! I've been picking up the slack for a friend of mine and I have three more pieces of her stuff to do. I want to get it done today so that this weekend we can work on getting Cass' furniture out of her room. She's getting a room makeover for Christmas and the stuff she has now has to go, or I won't get it done by that time. She's getting new paint, new flooring and new furniture. While I'm painting her room, I'm going to paint the kids bathroom. Get both jobs done at once.

I'd better go get busy or I won't get anywhere near done!

    Ya'll have a good day!

Wow Sue! Sounds pretty chilly there for ya. We have made it up to 37ºF...warmer than some but still pretty cold.

We finally had to go around the church and house last night closing vents and disconnecting water hoses. Can't have anything trying to freeze and bust on the new house ;) (Which I'm so enjoying by the way).

So Sue...I can't believe you start this early with your Christmas goodies. How many packages do you make up? I bet you make a lot of people happy with your little gifts! I have always wanted to send stuff like that to people but wasn't sure what ships well. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Jim. How's life in the village? It is quite cold here. Last night the minimum temperature in the greenhouse was -5c. Going to be lighting the woodburner in the sitting room again this evening.

    Blessings :wavey:

Hi Sheila, cold must be chasing me down..it was -5c outdoors to-day. The fire is going 24 hours a day now. Just 100 miles north of us they are getting 8 inches of snow to-day. We had a very heavy frost this morning....even my beard and hair has turned white..........lol

All is well in the village. Busy as all get out, but then, first of the month is banking time as the government and pension cheques come in...and, of course, bill paying time.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hi Pamela, Jim, Rob, Cindi, and Sheila. :wavey:

It varies each year, but I usually send out anywhere from 20 to 40 boxes (the small square Priority ones).

I send cookies, candies, and small popcorn-like snacks, and even sending them overseas, I haven't had any problem with spoilage. Rule of thumb - if it will keep in a 'tin' at home, it is safe to ship.

We pack shoe boxes (the cardboard type that new shoes come in) with school supplies, pads, pencils, erasers, small toys and such. The boxes are really packed, and they go to the Franklin Graham program by the same name,,Shoebox Ministry. Ours go to Mexico. We donate $5.00 with each box to cover expenses. It is a great ministry, in my opinion.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Our church is doing shoeboxes too, Jim! We usually send off about 200 or so, but this new preacher we have says our goals are too low! This year's goal is 500! The man is nothing if not brave. :D

Cass and I may get to go to Atlanta just before Thanksgiving to help sort and get ready to ship all the shoe boxes. T and I have to have a serious talk about it this weekend. I'd love to go, but Cass has had so many migraines that I'm half afraid to try it.

I've got the most pressing sewing done and am about to start something more fun: a skirt and jacket for Cass that has been cut out for a while. I've waited because it's a cool weather outfit and it hasn't been cool! But it is now so I'm going to try to get it finished. Then it'll be time to make red vests for the local dance studio to wear in the upcoming Christmas parade.

It is finally turning to a beautiful fall here. Some of the colors are simply spectacular! It seems like everything turned all at once over the past two weeks. I love it!

    Menagerie:

We have a transport company that picks up all the boxes from a central spot in Kingston and delivers all the boxes to wherever they are going....I forget now, but somewhere down South.

Then there is a lady who takes time off her job and at her own expense goes to Mexico to distribute the boxes and meet with the people. She then takes time when she comes back home to visit all the contributing churches, present slides and speaks about the venture. It is always a time of rejoicing in the Lord.

I love this ministry, to see the underprivileged of this world rejoice in such little things we so often take for granted,,,,imagine a piece of chalk being precious!

    Cheers,

    Jim
