Boy Howdy. Not much time to spend on the BB today, but must DEFEND MY HONOR.

The only reason I double posted is because NOBODY WOULD TALK TO ME! I post . . and wait . . and wait . . and wait.

Being ignored at 3 am is hard. At least that's what the wife said when she talk about my ignorance. [IMG]

And sometimes I post twice in a row because I've forgotten to say something IMPORTANT (what a concept, Dano).

Of course, not this time.

Thanks. We are excited now. Doing our whole "list" of last-minute schtuff as we fly out early in the a.m. to Denver, then LA.

And btw, when my son got married he sent out formal invitations (500 people at a sit down reception) from the parents. The company worded it:

The Right Reverend Doctor Robert E. Lee Griffin and the Mrs. Doctor Teresa Griffin, parents of . .

    Talk about embarassing

Thanks for asking Brother Dan! Actually my wife and I will be visiting a Christian auto-mechanic friend of ours in NW New Jersey (where the temperature is usually 10°F less than in NYC). He will be looking over our car with his computer and hopefully diagnose the problem. Whenever I come to a full stop, the car slips out of gear and I either have to downshift to start the car or slip it to neutral for a second or two. Otherwise it goes fine, on the highway and up the steep hills I can leave the other cars behind (if I so chose), so it must be some minor problem. Mechanics in the Big Apple said that I have a transmission problem, and they wanted to give me a complete rebuild from $5,000.00 to $1,800.00. We have a 1996 Ford Taurus wagon, with automatic transmission, with 112,000 miles. By this time tomorrow we will know the problem for sure, and seek remedy thereafter. [IMG]

Hey, Dr. Bob, is that your expert opinion?! [IMG] And are you telling me not to go to New Jersey tomorrow? [IMG]

    Barnabas,

I think that Dr. Bob should have to meet you in NW Jersey tomorrow - so he can let you know if your friend knows what he's doing or not!

Dan - I'll offer no opinion on repairing cars - cause I don't know nothing about it!

Hey, who's the doctor around here anyway? You want a second opinion?

Okay, I'll give it to you.

    DON'T BUY A FORD TAURUS :D

Yep, my other two kids (married the subsequent two years) opted for a "We invite you . . " rather than go through the formality thing.

BTW, the wife calls me the "seldom right reverend" . .

I could lend Dr.Bob an extra wide clergy collar to go with the Right Reverend.......Remember English policy, the wider the collar, the more evangelical the man.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Jim,

Do you have one that's 6' 6" wide?

Dan - just trying to be helpful!

I use a "banded collar" for almost all weddings now. Or a robe. But not quite into that "clergy collar backward bit".

Call me a compromiser. I've been called worse . . right here on the BB! [IMG]

Being the born and raised Southern Baptist that I am, when I see collars and robes, I think of...well, let's just say I DON'T think of Southern Baptists!! :D

Barnabas - I had a "mechanical bypass" when I was eleven. That's why I took up Latin and Greek and Hebrew, and NOT a wrench or screwdriver!

Trust the real mechanic will be able to help you with the car troubles.

Evidently they make more than license plates in Rahway?? [IMG]

Baptists in Canada and the USA tend to frown on clergy collars. In England they were commonplace. They have gotten away from them these days. I only own two ties for when I preach in churches I know absolutely dislike collars. These days I wear the typical Roman collar. They are small and convenient to wear. Then, remember, I spend a lot of my time with the Anglican Church in Canada, where collars are the norm.

    Cheers,

    Jim

My collar in this photo is almost hidden by the shade in the photo, and it is about 12 or so years old.
