My parents got married in 1976, so they had a red white and blue wedding. [IMG]

Now Margo, where did you hear something like that? If a man loses a finger with a Skil saw, he'll wrap it with a greasy rag and go back to work. If his temp goes over 100 degrees that is good for chicken soup, fuzzy slippers and a hearty, "Honey, could you hand me the remote when you come in from making me a sandwich?"

Men are amazingly resiliant. Our wimpiness is selective.

I got the results of my thyroid biopsy today. I'm thanking God for those B vitamins - B9 to be exact.

If you don't get my warped sense of humor - B9 = benign.

Pray for our son Kelly. He has been to a sleep clinic - and they tell him he has something seriously wrong in his throat. He'll see the doctor next Monday!

Ah, Margo, you brought up 1976. One of my favorite years! [IMG]

When I think of 1976, I just grin all over myself. I can't help it.

I was in the 9th grade and we were in the last year of junior high school. My friends (girls, that is) and I were just beginning to want to date older boys. We were being asked. Thankfully our parents had the common sense to say no.

Nonetheless, we were all giddy and we were all in love with....well, with love.

We knew that there was something about being attracted to an older version of the opposite sex that made you feel like a young woman and not a "girl" anymore.

And the 9th grade boys in our classes just didn't have it! Whatever it was that was making us swoon and giggle, they, with a doubt, did not have it! They were just a bunch of knotheads and morons.

And I am sure that they thought that we were a bunch of prissy, bossy, snooty aliens. We know that what's they felt because they told us so with regularity! [IMG]

Anyway, during the spring of that year our school got a student teacher. All of my student teachers until that point were college girls. But this...this new student teacher was a college MAN!

We girls never had him in our classes because he was student teaching under the coaches and p.e. teachers. And he always wore those coaching shirts and shorts.

Well, Margo, it was 1976 and the "rocket's red glare" and the "bombs bursting in air" were happening at my junior high school that spring all because of that young man.

We girls never actually got to meet him face to face since he taught only boys p.e., but every now and again, at recess or in the hallways, he would flash us a smile that rivaled Elvis' and sometimes, he would even wink at us and wave.

Well, the boys never would tell us his name! They were such noodlebrains! So we made up our own name for him. We called him "Legs". I need not explain.

We girls all wrote "Mrs. Legs" all over our notebooks that spring and we all decided that we were young women and not girls any longer.

    Well...

...as time went by and we entered high school, "Legs" did not travel with us and we never saw him again.

And as the years passed and we became juniors and seniors in high school and eventually college students, we began to realize that those knothead boys that we always looked down on weren't such knotheads after all. And we began to act less prissy and less snooty.

Love blossomed (or at least deep affection) and long-lasting unions were made. And yes, more often that not, short-lasting unions were made.

That's been 29 years ago and a few of those unions still exist. Most don't. But so many of us remain true to each other, both men and women. Maybe not in love anymore, but the love of true friends has taken its place.

There are so many of us, both men and women, who are now quite literally all over the world. And we see each other less and less. Some I swore a life's devotion to and I haven't seen them in 20 years. Some I see all the time. And some, sadly to say, are dead.

Every now and again, when just the "girls" get together, which is not nearly as often as we would like, someone is inevitably going to say, "I wonder where 'Legs' is?"

And we grin all over ourselves and enjoy the silliness of that spring of 1976 all over again.

    I miss my friends.

    Peace-

    YSIC

Awe, thanks for the good story. What a fun read. [IMG] I never got teh whole high school deal, since I was home schooled and in a small church. But I got some of the same stuff when I went to college. I met many different people too, and still wonder about a lot of them.

One of my sisters and I made up names for people all the time. (We still do!) There's "The Hat," "The Laundry Man," "Big Ugly Mouse," and so on.

I miss many old friends too. The years always bring tears and smiles . . . Never just one or the other.

    Good morning all:

I never did get back online last night. I stayed in the recliner with the heating pad until time to hit the sack.

It must have worked. I seem to only have a slight twinge left this morning. Of course, I'm not actually up and moving around yet...

Will be putting my corned beef in the crock pot this morning and cook my cabbage a little later.

Then it will be time to plan for Easter dinner. I will be having 8-9 family members over.

It is 28º here this morning, but heading for a high of 56º and some sunshine, then back down to 39º tonight and rain Friday.

    Cruising,
    §ue

Thanks for inviting me Sue. Just stopping to say hi on the way to Curves. I don't want to go there this AM but I need to.

There are some neat "names" here. I am wondering how you all came up with your login name?

Welcome Momma-M! I hope you become a regular. We had a thread about "user names", but it has probably been deleted. Feel free to start another thread on it, if you like.

Brent and I have green on toooooooo, Ed!

Great Report Dan! Will pray for Kelly. I believe a number of people with sleep apnea have surgery to repair something that closes off their airway. [IMG]

Jim is VERY sick. He was asleep on the sofa when we came in from church. I got him to bed around 9:00. By 4:00 a.m., he was so hot that it felt as if I were sleeping next to a radiant heater. He was breathing 35-40 shallow breaths a minute. He woke a little at 6 and I gave him some water and took his temp. It was 102°. By then he actually felt a little cooler to the touch! By 8:00 his fever had broken. He's coughing terribly but isn't hurting all over like yesterday morning.

I sure hope Nick and I don't catch this! I've got so many families depending on me for childcare and next week is spring break so I'll have them more hours.

Diane; With Jim's breathing problems and that nasty cough - you'd better get him to the doctor.

There are just too many things going around right now.

I woke up with Laryngitis this morning, but didn't know it until I tried to talk and nothing came out.

Sue, he went yesterday and was sent to the ER for breathing treatments. His meds for his nebulizer had 'expired'. If he were not better by time he woke, I was going to insist. He sounds like he's drowning when he coughs. [IMG]

    Thanks Margo!

His fever is down to 100.2° without aspirin. He feels dizzy when he stands. :(

Bellsouth DSL email for my area is down so I won't receive anything such as moderator alerts or notes until they get it repaired. Just FYI. [IMG]

So his fever's going down, then? A bit at a time?

My temp started going up and I started feeling worse. I called the doctor and he had a cancellation, so I was able to get in right away.

I do not have Laryngitis, I have Pharyngitis. So, I am back on Prednisone for 12 days and Zithromax for 5 days.

He said I'm probably getting all these things from the kids at the corner since this is contagious. I'm just hoping Brent doesn't get it...
