Good morning,

I had my banana and are going to church to catch a glimpse of a few hot air balloons, if you know what I mean...

It is about 75 here. That is a welcome change. Even the humidty is lower than usual, for now.

 

We lived in Indiana-Kentucky for a spell and saw many balloons covering the sky. If you've never seen it in person, you're missing out.

 

Hot air balloons are so cool! So pretty to look at them in the air. One of my ancestors, Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier, was one of the first pioneers of aviation. He died during an attempted crossing of the English Channel when his balloon, a combination hydrogen and hot air balloon, exploded on 15 June 1785. Him and his companion, Pierre Romain, became the first known victims of an air crash.
Oh well, you have to die of something, right?
We are having a cool front, it's been under 80 this evening. PTL! Loving it.

Sue, that trip really sounds like fun. We have a similar type village here in Oklahoma and it is so interesting.

Morning all:

Sue, Nope...we never got to the lawn. We went to the dump, then to get groceries at the Wally World in Shelbyville. While there we figured we'd go ahead and get the mini-blinds for the windows and a few other smaller items we needed like a shower curtain liner (the old one ripped), and then off to the post office in Bell Buckle. Bell Buckle was busy, and we had a LOT of mail. Hadn't been to the PO Box in a week. Since I don't drive much any more because of vertigo/unsteadiness, we only go when Viv is able to be home. I ended up in bed with a vertigo attack when we got home and Viv was looking at some things for her business online.

Sunday was great! Praise the Lord for the new church from the split. It was so great to see some happiness and growth in people's lives through adversity. We had prayer meeting before SS, all of the church holding hands in a circle, and the Lord blessed! SS was about prayer and it's importance in not only the life of the individual, but, in the life of the church. The sermon was on Surviving and thriving despite persecution and struggle!

After morning service, we had a business meeting, and voted on several things. One was to register our domain name and get a site up ASAP for the public. Another was to become a part of the SBC, with only two dissenting votes, and these folks were from a Holiness background. But, they agreed to abide by the church's wishes/doctrine of the Bible. We also voted to send a collective letter to Midland, the church where I just resigned as pastor, and ask that our names be dropped from the membership rolls since they've made it clear that no letters would be sent to Faith Community Church from Midland. It's a shame, but, we still prayed for them, for God to bless them, to open their eyes, and for souls to continue to be saved through their ministry. We bear no grudges. We cannot and expect the blessing of God!

We're getting ready to start our visitation program, and to start hitting doors in the community. Please, pray for God's continued blessing. Even with several families out for Girl Scout camp, we had 31 in the morning worship service. If they would have been there, there would have been 45+. Plus, we had new visitors. I truly believe the Lord will bless this church. It's a place of prayer, honor and service to God, and to each other. Praise the Lord! All three of us who were preachers at Midland are now at Faith Community, and we all have retained our positions. We are currently praying for a facility to meet in and are praying the Lord will open one soon. We've already outgrown the house we're meeting in! Amen!!!

Wow...it's been a long time since I've felt this kind of excitement, and seen the Lord working in so many lives at once! It's great!!!

We are now facing some REALLY bad weather here. It's been raining off and on, and the wind is really starting to pick up. It was hot, humid and foggy here this morning, and we're under an "Inland Tropical Storm" warning as well as a flood warning, with wind advisories. They're saying winds could be at 75mph with gusts up to 90. Please keep us in your prayers! Our neighbors, too.

Yes, Gayla, Harber Village. I don't think it depicts an era as old as the Abraham Lincoln era, but it is interesting and fun. Actually, I think the items came more from northern areas than southern because usually I can identify with "old" stuff:laugh: and some of the things there I had never seen before.

I know that Sue and Brent will have lots of fun today.

Looks like Katrina will affect weather across the country. Praying for everyone in the path and those not in the path.

Sounds like a good start, Tony. I started a church in a summer resort area in 1959. We had one family and met in a school house. We even took the services to the beach area where the congregants were wearing swim suits. That little church is still going to-day. Swells in the summer and shrinks in the winter.

Although I like the traditional church, I like the kind of church that you are describing, Jim.

We have many lakes where people go for the weekend in Oklahoma. There are church services held near the camp grounds and the resorts. A great ministry!

 

Jim, we've visited churches like that on vacation in FL, SC, and other places. It's great to know that that church is still going! People on vacation need ministering to just as much as others, and it is indeed, as Thankful said, a GREAT ministry!

I've been following the weather, watching Katrina. Hurricanes fascinate me for some reason. Amazing what they can do to an area.

I bet Sue and Brent will have a great time today.

Can't do anything but watch Katrina here. The local channels are all doing full time coverage. It's quite nice that they can do that, makes it easy to get information when you need it.

Schools are letting out in just a few minutes, I'll update in a few minutes.

The trouble with the weather coverage is that the ones who really, really need it usually do not have power for tv or radio. This happened to me in a storm once. I was alone, no power and did not know what was really happening. The battery TV that I had would not work so as soon as I could I bought a battery operated weather radio.

The first time I have used it was last week when the power was off.

I'm watching my favorite show, "The Young and the Restless" (I know, I shouldn't be wasting my time, but I've been watching it for years) and they break in occasionally to let us know what is happening, but when we have tornadoes, they take over the channels to let us know what is going on. Now the cameras are so scattered and sophisticated that we can watch the actual tornado.

Yeah, Thankful that's why generators were worth more than their weight in gold here last year, and radios, batteries, water, etc. We have all that but a generator for when we need it. Thank God for technology! It's truly amazing what these storms can do. I wonder how the members here are doing that are in her path.

P.S. Y&R is my mom's favorite day time show. lol

I heard we are supposed to get some hurricane leftovers up my way (up? lol, sounds so weird)... but haven't heard when or how much.
