I was retired by mandatory requirements at the university at age 65. Upon retirement, I took on a city pastorate until my strokes cut me back...three years later I carried on preaching an counselling, funerals and weddings, not to mention my architectural work, which I just quit this past year...........wife says until some sod begs me to design their house.

Barnabas, I go to bed at the same time each night and awake at the same time in the morning..not to mention the hourly rise all night long,,,lol.

I am also serving my local Anglican Church as an assistant rector and take Sunday Evening Prayer services (similar to your evening service). I don't do weddings or funerals anymore.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Ed,

What does your body tell ya? Do ya ever get up, just feeling that you don't have the strength to go in to work? And if so, is it happening more and more lately?

If yer feeling 'fit as a fiddle' more often than not, I would say, continue on, Bro. But if not, then it is time to slow down a little. Remember, retiring does not necessarily mean giving up completely.

    Ron

My body isn't talking to me.

My wife wants me home all the time.
    It is a honey-do thing :D

Ahhh, Betty want's ya to slow down. I see. Gotta use a little biblical advice that may seem humorous...

Pleeeeze, all this talk about retirement! Makes me want to go into work in the morning & resign!!
But I'm happy for ya Barnabas, if I live long enough to retire I hope we can relax...just a little.
You still haven't figured out about BH?
She's my sweet loving ....squirrel! I've had her close to 2yrs. now, a surprise blessing from my Lord!! He's used her as sort of a rehabilitation tool...for me. I wouldn't take a thousand dollar bill for her!! She's a parapalegic, that's why I still have her.
Well, actually I guess it's time to turn her loose to her job & get ready for tomorrow. That's why I warned ya about the rocker...she likes to nap in it thru the nite!! Goodnight Gang!!

    Good morning all,

It's going to be unseasonably warm again today, for our area - high 30's. The rest of the week in the 40's and 52º next Sunday!

Another school day today and then I will bake Brent's birthday cake. He gets to celebrate two days in a row!

Shawna will be celebrating with us tomorrow evening because we will be in church Wednesday evening (which is his birthday).

Wednesday morning, Brent and I will be going to Springfield (NO SCHOOL) and eating breakfast at Denny's and then going to ToysRus before we come home. He will get his present from Grandpa and me at supper.

We got him a really nice microscope with lots of slides. Not only will it be fun, but it will also aid him in his school work.

He gets to pick what he wants me to cook for his 'birthday supper', but he hasn't decided yet. I imagine it will be steak and garlic bread or fried chicken and mashed potatoes...

I hope his menu won't be as weird as the cake he is having me bake - lemon cake with chocolate icing. Ewwww.

    Surfing,

    Blessed morning all:

It's VERY WARM here for this time of day...58 degrees! It was wonderful to feel the breeze when I went out to see Vivian off to work. Rain is supposed to be coming sometime soon, though, with a short fall in temps, and then back up into the 60's and 70's! WHERE DID WINTER GO!?!?

Sue, tell Brent Happy B-Day from Vivian and me!

BARNABAS!!! Congrats, Brother, on the retirement! God bless you!

We didn't go to church yesterday. I've been running a 101+ fever since Friday night and my blood sugar has been running far above what it's supposed to be because of it. Viv tried to talk me into going to the doctor if it's not changed by Wendesday. I said I'd think about it.

Dell has been cutting back on hours, but Viv said the parking lot was actually full this morning when she arrived. So, maybe they will be staying all day. I told her not to use any of her personal or vacation time if she didn't have to. We've got things we want to do later in the year, and we're going to need that time!

Well, I need to go and drink some juice and go back to bed. The chills are starting again.

Ya'll be good, be kind, be careful!

    T

Good morning Lady Sue! Out to your corner this morning, huh? Be sure you bundle up. And hope you don't mind but I am grabbing two of your heavenly elixir this morning [Dr Pepper] and head to N/W New Jersey to see the grandkids. Have a little cold still but no longer contagious. [IMG]

Thank you Brothers standingfirminChrist, Jim1999, preacher, and AVL1984 for your good wishes and advise on retirement. [IMG]

Now, Lady Sue, I do not wish to hijack this thread and talk about retirement, so the next person talking about retirement here on this thread will have to pay all the drinks for the entire day! ;) [IMG]

    Dear Barnabas;

I have retired from the 'corner' since my bout with Pneumonia last year, and all the drinks here are already free. [IMG]

Enjoy your day with the grandkids!

Tony, I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Good morning. Sue, we went to a Denny's a couple of months ago, and my daughter ordered peach french toast. It was VERY good!

Tony, listen to your wife and go to the doctor. High fevers in adults can mess with hearts, and with your health history, you do NOT want that!

Good morning Watchman. You have a lot of posts, so you're obviously not new, yet I don't remember you. Are you one of those that normally stick with the boring....uh, I mean things I personally don't follow, such as version and history? [IMG]

Oops, gotta edit and add...I have to go to school today! Vacation is over. It'll be nice to get back into having conversation with other people, but my kids grades, especially Nina's, took a jump up while I was home because I had more time and energy to help.

    Good Morning Everyone!

School started here this morning for two out of three kids. Poor Son is stuck at home with a nasty virus. He's moving and eating better today though so maybe he'll be better by tomorrow, if this doesn't trigger a migraine. Virus' often do.

Keep the coffee coming today Sue. I think I woke up everytime I rolled over last night. I have to much to do today to nap, so I'll need caffeine infusions regularly.

Tony it is so nice here today that I considered working in the yard even though I already have quite enough to do today. Winter can keep coming in short bursts and then go away again.

    Ya'll have a good day!

    Good Morning all!
My Monday is one of those weeks where you have to "hit the ground running." They expect me to remember stuff from last week on Monday at 9AM? Hopefully things will slow down a bit as the day progresses. Good day with the kids in church yesterday. Not too many of 'em, so I had a nice one-on-one with a boy who had lots of salvation questions. Sent him home not quite ready to make a decision, but gave him a kid's booklet and told his mom. God is good!

Hey there Sue! Interesting graphic at the top of this Coffehouse.
But did you notice it's the Catholic version of the 10 C? The one that leaves out #2 (no idols) and makes two out of #10 (do not covet your neighbor's wife, and then do not covet your neighbor's goods)?

No, Debby, I really didn't notice that. I will change it. Thanks for the heads up.

    Good Morning, everyone!

I have been so busy this morning I just now stopped in for my coca cola.

I took Muffin (a Bichon Frise) to the Groomers this morning. He was so excited about going that he got in the car all by himself. Now I know why. When we got there, there were three other bichons in the waiting room. How did he know his buddies were going to be there?

I was surprised to see that he is a little smaller than the others. To make matters worse, I couldn't find his collar this morning, but he can be identified by his scars. ;)

Then I wanted to change all my prescriptions to the Pharmacy that Ed uses, on to the grocery store, and by the bank. No not buy the bank. There was not one parking place available so I just went through the commercial drive through.

Now, I need to get started on the chores I usually do on Monday.

My list is growing. I had to check with my dentist. They always send a statement of what I owe, but never an itemized statement. They are kind enough to file on insurance before they bill me, but I would like to have an itemized statement.

Now I have to call the vet to see if they have the special food for Muffin.

Now, do you all see why Ed does not want to retire? He loves to work and let me run all the errands. I just want him home. I like for him to be home with me.

I'll be checking in later, later.

    Betty

Well my day suddenly got shorter!

Son is to sick to do the usual afternoon activities and is also to sick to stay home by himself and watch Bitsy while Precious goes to hers. I rather he be well, but I'm not minding that I don't have to go out again.

Now if I could just decide what we're having for dinner.

I like the new graphic Sue. Debby you have good eyes, cause I didn't even notice the problem with the first one.
