Socialism and fascism only appear different when they're sliding down the outside of their respective circles. Once they arrive at the bottom, both are functionally and historically alike. Both societies believe in total government control of the economy, education, and morals, suppression of free speech and other rights, imposition of a politically correct ideology, subordination of citizens' rights to the goals of the state or collective, and the use of law to coerce and prosecute those who dissent.

That statement is absolutely "spot-on". I've never seen it stated more eloquently. Thank you, RevMitchell.

Absolutely. So when a President takes away our rights because of the "danger of our enemies" he's a Fascist. I'm been saying that all along about the Bush administration and their "Patriot" act. One of my Christian friend's apartment was broken into by the CIA/FBI/Police without a search warrant because he had been seen witnessing to someone who, unknown to him, was being watched. The CIA refused to repair the damage and warned him against telling anyone that this had happened. He took the chance of telling me.

All of this is perfectly legal under this Fascist law.

I see that Revmitchell still continues to post discussions about communism, socialism, etc. Now fascism has been thrown in for good measure.

    Some things never change.....

And when a president wants my tax dollars to fund a program in which helps pays morgtages for others it is socialism

And when a president wants to take my tax dollars to provide everyone Health care it is socialism.

So, which presidential candidate is not for socialist/fascist ideals?

    ANSWER... NONE OF THEM.

    God help us.

We have had socialism in these United States since the mid-1930s and during this time we have become the most powerful and most prosperous nation in world history.

...and in debt up to our eyeballs and completely divorced from our own founding documents and yet we have done little than make more than a dent in poverty in America, all the while failing to erode racial and socioeconomic barriers in this country.

We have made much in the way of erasing the racial barriers in this nation to the point where our nation is on the verge of electing a black man as our president. We have also made great progress in enabling the elderly to retire in much more comfort and independence.

We have had an incrementalization of socialism. Capitalism remains dominant. Captialism is the drive behind our prosperity not socialism. Prosperity depends on productivity. Socialism destroys that.

If you read RM's previous posts, it becomes quite obvious political terms such as liberal, conservative, communist, socialist and now facist elude him.

Wanna see what our future holds? Look at other socialist nations. They're not doing so hot.

It is on the rare occasion that SN is quoted that I can see what he posts. Sine he has quite an obsession with me that has reached a very creepy level he is on my ignore list.

As I have stated elsewhere my libertarianism is under review.

Come on, KenH, we have cookies over on the dark side .

I'm no socialist (I don't believe in government ownership of industry in general), but I believe that some things simply will not work in our current market without government intervention.

Take health care for example...a truly free market (i.e. the only thing that would effectively promote competition and reduce prices) requires that no one be required to treat patients who cannot pay--not even emergency services. That's fine when we are talking about iPods or about automobiles, but I'm just not willing to accept that people won't be treated. But, if we take that step to require treatment, we interfere enough to mess up the free market. If we aren't going to have an essentially free market, I'd rather have the advantages of universal health care.

I'm sure many of us have socialized water. Some of us may have socialized electricity and gas. We all have socialized police forces. We all have socialized fire departments. We all have socialized road construction. We all have a socialized military (no local barons with their own armies in America, the UK, etc.). They aren't perfect, but sometimes there is no free market alternative that is both cost-effective and achieves universal coverage. If something is not profitable, in a free market, it isn't done. What happens when something needs to be done but isn't profitable?

The free market is not a panacea. It is an excellent means of distributing goods and services that are profitable. It is a horrible means of distributing good and services universally or goods and services that are unprofitable.
