A biblical research of the term liberty shows that liberalism is inspired by God. Research of Jeremiah shows the prophecy of breaking a covenant with God to preserve liberty.

A Wikipedia research of the definition Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America would connote the same meaning as a covenant with God.

Further, a research of the definition of conservatism would connote the same meaning as treason against one's loyalty to serve their God or country.

    BIBLICAL RESEARCH

    Lev25
[10] And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

    Pss119
[45] And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

    Isa61
    [1] The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    Jer34
    [8] This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them;
[15] And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
[16] But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
[17] Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

    2Cor3
[17] Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

    Gal2
[4] And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

    Gal5
[1] Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
[13] For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

    Jas1
[25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

    Jas2
[12] So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

    1Pet2
[16] As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

    2Pet2
[19] While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

Stanley, methinks you study too much. You've come up with lots of ideas, now you are testing them on others. If one of us agreed with your analysis, you'd quickly admit us into your camp. In essence, you are trolling for endorsement. My friend, the only endorsement you need is found in John 3:16-17, John 14:6, and Romans 10:8-13. Go for it!

Please pull the other string...That's the one attached to my shoe, and I am trying to get it off for the night.

Maybe that old church had a decent idea about keeping the Bible away from common folks.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I don't think I would phrase it that way - but one could sustain a good argument that "liberalism" is more consistent with a biblical ethic.

It is unfortunate that in this country abortion, gay rights, and God out of schools are some major pillars of "liberal" politics - but it is not that way in other countries. For these reasons I cannot vote "liberal" when election time comes around. But that doesn't mean that oppression of groups of people and the environment are issues with which we should not be concerned.

Modern day liberalism cannot be supported as consistent with Biblical Ethics because it is more related to communism which has as its foundation in class envy and forced benevolence. That is not Biblical. I heard someone say once that the Bible is probably more supportive of communalism, but not communism. I think this distinction is true because the early church did have communal living and took care of each other and the poor, but they were compelled to do so by their love for God, not by the force of the government.

    Joseph,

That was said much better than the OP. I still have no clue what the OP was supposed to be stating. Conservative indicates going to the original and liberal moving away from . . . IMHO

The OP is kind of confusing. One problem with the term liberal is that it is defined differently for American politics.

I am supposing that by liberalism he means the perverted American definition that is roughly equivalent to democratic socialism in other countries.

Besides the issues Charles mentioned, I believe that the economic policies are wholly unbiblical as well. As Joseph alluded to, Christians are NOT called to use the power of the government sword to force the unwilling to support the needy much less those who are delinquent, irresponsible, and sometimes malicious users of others.

Liberalism teaches the rich to resent the poor and the poor to expect a "right" to a living that they did nothing to earn. In the American experience, it has subsidized unhealthy, counter-productive behaviors and social trends. The cruelest part of all is that it has institutionalized a "class" of people by teaching them to be dependent. It has crippled them.

There is nothing good or moral about what socialistic wealth redistribution programs have done to the poor in the US.
