And would not implement any of it if elected.

The conservative agenda is going to have to be implemented from the grass roots. Reagan could not end abortion, and he tried. Neither could either one of the Bushes. Conservatives want to get rich and delegate politics to someone else instead of doing the hard work of a precinct worker. It shows in that conservatives now have no leader since 1988--that's 20 years, as you know, without a leader.

If conservatives control the platform, then they are going to have to tell the moderates that certain actions are off limits. Moderates cannot win without conservatives and conservatives will lose without moderates as things stand today.

One thing good about Rudy is that he is more of a team player than anyone else in the field at this time. It is conservatives who often are not team players.

Conservatives have been team players since 1980. Unfortunately, their willingness to go along with the liberals in the GOP, such as Guiliani and both Bushes, in order to win elections has been rewarded by being slapped in the face repeatedly as the liberals implemented their big government agenda.

There is no big government agenda in the GOP--your statement undercuts the GOP for your own gain. The GOP is infested with leftists. The GOP has essentially been out of power since 1932 and the times when they controlled both the White House and both houses of Congress have been very limited. This last election saw that the Congressional Republicans had some corrupt practices. As far as the so-called conservatives in the race, they want to change the GOP to their own image. Do you really think that McCain, who calls Christians intolerant, is going to enact your agenda? Or how about Romney, who would have the President of the Mormon church giving him new revelations from the Mormon gods every ten minutes, as capable of any change whatsoever?

There is less than a year left in order to develop a conservative candidate that can beat the Democrats. With 44% leaning towards Rudy, he is the Republican front-runner. There has to be a deal made with the moderates that they will allow the platform and we will allow their leadership. If the platform then gets ignored, we can blame the conservatives who will probably go back to getting rich the day after the election and forget about the USA until the next election.

All one has to do is look at the federal budget while the GOP controlled both the White House and the Congress to understand that there is.

Conservatives have been giving their votes to the GOP since Reagan left office and basically all they have received in return are slaps to the face.

If Guiliani is nominated by the GOP(which I don't see happening) then a sizable number of conservatives will either sit on their hands in 2008 or vote for an independent or a minor party candidate and the Democrat candidate will have a comfortable victory.

The only hope for conservatives to return the GOP to conservatism is to nominate Congressman Ron Paul for president in 2008. There is no other way to accomplish this.

Nominating Ron Paul would be suicidal and everyone knows it. He is so far out of the GOP mainstream that he would make Barry Goldwater look like a winner in comparison.

It is not the GOP that has increased the size of the government but the leftists and Democrats posing as Republicans who want big programs for their districts, and you know it. Start with the eastern Republicans who are not team players and you will see the heart of the problem. Throw in McCain with the group that is unreliable, also. Throw in Paul with the group that is unreliable, also.

If you think that there is going to be a conservative triumph without a conservative candidate and without conservative participation, you are naive. If you aren't a precinct worker, why don't you become one and get out there in the grassroots where wars and elections are won? And that means making a deal with the moderates to get the best possible government until the suicidal liberals lose power and money once and for all.

Doesn't matter if Ron Paul is a Republican in nature, he is a Republican in name and right now his talking points are what Americans are tending to agree with. That makes him a good choice.

I, for one, would not want to vote for Rudy if nominated. I want to vote for a viable GOP candidate, believe me. As a registered Republican, I don't want to have another Clinton in office, but I don't want another Bush either.

I will not vote for Rudy as I hold my nose from the stench. Rudy is nothing more than Clinton-lite trying to dress himself up as a conservative long enough to be elected. I have 0% faith that he will implement anything of a socially or fiscally conservative agenda.

As a matter of fact, if the choice were between liberal, pro-choice Guiliani and liberal, pro-choice Clinton, I might just vote for Clinton out of spite.

And we know that Clinton will be running on a pro-choice plank in the Democrat Party so the abortions will continue except that the Christian right will have no chance at even a powwow with Hillary. Even you want to know what the Democrats have in mind, just listen to the Congressional Democrats now as they threaten to collapse the government and restore the full-blown liberal agenda.

Rudy is a team player. A deal can be made with him. However, it will require that conservatives work to implement the program that they want. It will be difficult because there is no conservative leadership and there is an oft-stated refusal to work with the team for the good of everyone. And then there is Ron Paul, who believes in states rights on abortion and same-sex marriage and who believes the abolition of the death penalty. All three of these issues are way outside of the GOP platform and that does not even take into consideration the war in Iraq and Paul's opposition to it--a slap in the face to the GOP.

I think that Paul could get the Constitution Party nomination but he is so unknown and has so little personality that I cannot see him making a dent in the general election as a third-party candidate although he might take some votes away from Hillary.

Then by your own definition Guiliani is merely posing as a Republican.

Me, neither. I will probably sit this one out. I absolutely REFUSE to vote for the "lesser of two evils" just to keep a Democrat out as I believe a vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.

You are not going to be voting for the man if you vote for Rudy; you are going to be voting for the GOP program or platform. Rudy knows that he has to move right to run nationally. He said the other day that you don't have to agree with him and that he doesn't even agree with himself on some of his positions. He is the best of the lot at this time. This late in the game there might not be anyone else in the contest. There are always a certain number in both parties who drop out on a given election year but the country is still a two-party system, which saves us a lot of headaches that European countries have with their multi-parties.

As for Ron Paul, he is not a mainstream Republican in any sense of the word and he is not a conservative but a maverick of some sort. He oppoes the GOP on all foreign policy and has some domestic policies such as states rights and abolition of the death penalty that make him a lefty of sorts.

We've already got one of these in the White House, why would we want to elect another person who doesn't know what to do?

Is the Constitution Party running a candidate?

If the major parties are nominating candidates that are not evangelical, wouldent this election be the better one for them to contest and get a higher percentage of voters who only want to vote for someone that is born again?

I found their website through Google easily enough, it looks like they have amalgamated with a Veterans group to contest the next election as a coalition!

KenH might be pleased, they have an article asking why Ron Paul is being ignored!

Why do you discredit someone who's involved in a 19th century cult and support one who is involved in a 2nd century cult?

Ron Paul is an actual conservative for he stands for conserving the Constitution and being fiscally conservative. What is it that you believe Rudy is attempting to conserve and what kind of confusing compromised position is it to support someone who doesn't even agree with himself on some positions?

    1) And when is the last time a president payed the least bit of attention to his party's platform? No one should be deceived - you are voting for a candidate, not a party platform.

    2) Congressman Ron Paul is a mainstream conservative libertarian. Guiliani is certainly not a mainstream conservative. In fact, Guiliani is not even a conservative by any definition of the word.
