Can you give me an objective means to judge whether it is in spirit and truth or the flesh?
Not really. People didn't "see" Jesus because he listened to Hymns or dressed differently. People saw Jesus because of the what he said and the way he acted (I'm sure the miracles didn't hurt). Dressing decently means nothing, go into an office building and you'll see plenty of nonchristians wearing nice suits.

yes the lyrics are differant but it's not the lyrics that matter, the music doesn't glorify God. And not all CHR lyrics are good. Check these lyrics out there from p.o.d., make sure to read the last verse carefully.
    Wildfire Lyrics

Come and give me that wildfire
The uncivilized sound that I love
    The primitive ragga blaze style
Consciousness vibes I and I know
The untamed flame that I desire
    Me want uncultivated Jah glow
    Foolish intensity, versatile
Fly the spirit high, take me higher

    [Chorus:]
    One leads with the passion
    The righteous will burn again
    One bleeds everlasting
    Tribal fire will never end
    [repeat]

I want to feel that wildfire
    Irregular burning of the sun
Shining through make you spit fire
    Savage combustion, let it go
    Impetuous fervor testifier
    Outlandish passions I know
    Crucial rhythms no denial
    Musical nation, empire

WOW if those are glorifying to God I don't want to know whats not.

    Comrade, paulsfocus,

Both of you are entitled to your own opinions, and that is what you stand on. Opinions.

The bible does not condemn, or condone, CCM. So you are standing on your own opinions, and attempting to force them on the rest of us.

If CCM is worldly to you, then don't listen, as you have that freedom. But, if I choose to listen, I have that freedom as well.

I do not condemn either of you for your legalistic stance. I feel sorry for you, in that the Christian life is not one of "no, no, no." Nor is it a life of freedom to sin without remorse. It is a life that has a new meaning, a new purpose.

CCM allows me to enjoy singing praise to my Lord and King. And, for that reason, I love it.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

    Check this out:

King of Glory - Third Day

Who is this King of glory
that persues me with His love
And haunts me with each hearing
    of His softly spoken words
    My conscience, a reminder
    of forgiveness that I need
Who is this King of glory
    who offers it to me

Who is this King of angels,
    O blessed Prince of Peace
    Revealing things of Heaven
    and all its mysteries
    My spirit's ever longing
for His grace in which to stand
Who is this King of glory,
Son of God and Son of man

    His name is Jesus,
    precious Jesus
    The Lord Almighty,
    The King of my heart
    The King of glory

Who is this King of glory
    with strength and majesty
    And wisdom beyond measure,
    the gracious King of kings
The Lord of Earth and Heaven,
    the Creator of all things
Who is this King of glory,
    He's everything to me

    His name is Jesus,
    precious Jesus
    The Lord Almighty,
    The King of my heart
    The King of glory

The Lord of Earth and Heaven,
    the Creator of all things
He is the King of glory,
    He's everything to me

    His name is Jesus,
    precious Jesus
    The Lord Almighty,
    The King of my heart
    The King of glory

Hey paulsfocus why not list a CHRISTIAN BAND P.O.D. does not claim to be a christian band. I do listen to them. Satellite was an awesome cd. Here is some great lyrics from one of their song from "snuff the punk"

    Every Knee

"wherefore, God had highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name and at the feet of Jesus every knee shall bow of things of heaven of things of earth and things under this earth and at the name of Jesus every tongue shall confess that He is King under God the Father Christ is King."

This is just part of that song it's huge. So P.O.D. has Christ honoring lyrics.

Sorry I've heard p.o.d. referred to as a "Christian" band.
But you prove my point, you still listen worldly music, if you're just listening to the words, like most claim, why would you listen to ungodly satanists? Have you ever seen their web site with the satanic symbols everywhere?

First thats not what the BIBLE says.
This is what the BIBLE says-
Once again you prove a point, just because the lyrics are good doesn't mean the music is.The music doesn't glorify God. AND THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.

    paulsfocus,

Hey, fine. You sit and don't listen to music, since it is so worldly. Just you, and your legalistic hermits.

Oh, and you might want to chuck your TV as well. Lot of garbage on there.

And stop going out to eat. I mean, you are being served by pagans, and most restuarants (besides fast food) serve alcohol.

And don't go to school. It is run by the ungodly government.

And toss your bible. Yes, toss it. It was printed by a company who sells them to make a profit, so it is actually a vehicle for someone's greed.

    And so is your legalism.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

This is exactly what we are telling you, paulsfocus. The music we listen to confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord for the glory of the Father.

That you don't like it, and that your pastor rants and raves in the pulpit about "the devil's music" (straight from the 50's) is your problem.

If you don't like it, don't listen. But it ain't going away. It is the sound of a new generation, and it is the way that we praise the Lord.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

Never said all music is bad. But you have a point, reading the Bible is a much better past time. [IMG]

Thanks for the advice, although it comes about seven years to late.
I already try not to go to places that serve alcohol, but now your going to far. You will never get totally out of the world you live in. But why give in to your flesh, and listen to ungodly music?

Never been to public schrool a day in my life. And on top of that I'm out of school. But I do agree with you, it is an ungodly government.

The Bible I use comes from a publisher that sells everything at cost.

Once again not "legalism" Christian standards.

I think that everyone needs to remember that name-calling is not only NOT Christ-like, but it's really immature too. It seems to me like everyone's on one of two sides, which is fine. You are all entitled to your own opinions. But don't attack eachother personally-please! (Sorry if I'm being too presumptious).

    JIFP,

No, you are not being presuptuous at all. I do tend to get a little too passionate about the things that are close to me, and music is very close to me. And, unfortunately, so is legalism.

Any type of music can be considered "worldly". It all goes by who is doing the looking. Legalism reeks no matter who is doing it.

    paulsfocus,

Music is music. Lyrics are words that convey meaning. If our type or style of music bothers you, don't listen to it. We will have to answer for what we do ourselves; you do not have to answer for what we listen to. If it is sin to you, stay way clear of it.

Trying to impose your own self-defined, extra-biblical, Pharisaic rules on someone else, you cross a line.

You made a remark earlier that made me wonder. You said, "You just admitted that you like it because it appeals to your flesh,it doesn't glorify God."

I take that to mean that if I enjoy it, then it cannot bring glory to my Father. Am I correct in this? And what would you suggest that I listen to in order to bring glory to my Father?

    Honest questions, paulsfocus.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

    Trotter,

    Thanks for the welcome! [IMG]

Legalists... a legalist isn't what paulsfocus is because a legalist is someone who does those things to GO TO HEAVEN. Salvation by works. Paulsfocus said "Christian standards" and there IS a difference. See, when a person gets saved they love God because of everything that He did for them, a saved person therefore (no I'm not trying to sound stupid using "therefore" :D ) wants to show their love to Him. But think of this- if you knew Bill Gates and you were going to give him a b-day present, what would you give him?! Think about God. We love Him and want to show our love to Him by giving Him somethting
but- what can we give Him?!?! God not only owns everything, He MADE everything! The Bible (God's Word...literally) tells us how we can show Him that we love Him...

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

That is why we have "Christian standards." And besides that God made us right? Well, He knows
everything about us and He also loves us (AMAZING!) so He gave us His
commandments to protect us. It's AMAZING! Commandments are
awesome! See, the definition of "God's Commandments" are...
LOVE!! God showing His love to us and us showing our love to Him!!

Psalm 119:127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea,
    above fine gold.
Psalm 119:131 I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy
    commandments.

    -AZfiddler [IMG]
P.S. There are more commandments than just the ten... and another word for them is "Biblical standards." ;)

1John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

2John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. [IMG]

I definitely agree with AZF. If trying my best to do what God has commanded me (even the strict rules that He says to comply) is being legalist, then I guess that's what I am.
