The House Judiciary Committee has put out a report on White House abuses, focusing on the Downing Street Memos and other evidence of lies, manipulation and deceit by the administration to get us into the Iraqi invasion and occupation, torture in Iraq, and the secret surveillence and other civil rights violations of US citizens.

    Linkie to summary (pdf)

Linkie to linkies of full reports - very large downloads in pdf format.

    Happy reading!

Bush has more than a casual interest in the outcome of congressional elections this year.

Count on him pulling out all the stops, to keep from a full Congressional investigation.

'Conyers has created what might be called the definitive left-wing blogger’s history of the Bush administration. “I would like to thank the ‘blogosphere’ for its myriad and invaluable contributions to me and my staff,” Conyers writes in the report’s introduction. “Absent the assistance of ‘blogs’ and other Internet-based media, it would have been impossible to assemble all of the information, sources and other materials necessary to the preparation of this report.”...

'Conyers’s 1,401 footnotes, which include citations of authorities ranging from the left-wing conspiracy website rawstory.com to the left-wing antiwar sites democracyrising.us and afterdowningstreet.org to the left-wing British newspaper the Guardian to the left-wing magazines The Nation and Mother Jones to the left-wing blogosphere favorite Murray Waas to the New York Times columnists Paul Krugman, Maureen Dowd, Bob Herbert, and Frank Rich to former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal to the New Yorker’s Seymour Hersh.'

    http://newsbusters.org/node/6803

In other words, Conyers' staff has cobbled together dozens of opinion pieces from bloggers and left-wing pundits and then called it a report.

They didn't "cobble together blogs", they used the blogs to point them to newssources. You didn't actually read it or even the End Notes (linkie). If you had, you'd've noticed that www.whitehouse.gov/new/releases is the most often quoted source, but published analyses, press briefings, letters, interviews and hearings are also cited.

Rawstory.com is not a left-wing conspiracy site, it's a left-wing exposé site - they often provide photocopies of documents - original sources - in pdf format to back their claims. The report also cited FoxNews.

You might want to just skim it before dismissing it.

What else would one expect from Conyers?

He's a Bush hating political hack from way back without an unbiased bone in his body.

The CIA is not the only source of Intelligence. And many more sources believed and said just the opposite. Isreal, and Britian being two of them. This is a case of not telling the whole story, hiding other facts to make a case. It is reasonable that Our President believed exactly what so many others believed.

The President has 90 days to redeploy troops where ever he likes. After that he must get congrssional approval.

Each and everyone of these cases were well into the investigation by the military before any story broke out. There is no evidence that the President supported such nonsense.

I have no knowledge or coment of this one.

Wow! encourage the leakers then try to hold the very person who most wants the leaks to stop acountable. What a great new politcal tactic.

I do not know about this one either. Sounds like a witch hunt though.

That charge will go nowhere. Just a bunch of hot air.

    a go nowhere.

I have heard him say many times publically that he has kept them informed in each and every step. and this is the firs time that I have heard this charge made.

Politics is a tough game . It has been reduced to destroy or be destroyed. The dems have hit the barrel.

Let's just say that Bush is praying the democrats don't take the House or the Senate this fall.

Investigators able to subpoena witnesses and evidence would be his worst nightmare.

Actually I did skim it, weisenheimer. Suffice to say that if the Dems win the House they will push this for all it's worth, shaky legal ground or not.

It's far more likely he is just concerned for the country. He knows the legislative process will stop entirely while vengeful legislators go on a full scale witch hunt.

Bush will come out unscathed. The country will suffer.

All this hoopla isnt about actual misconduct by the President. It is about the 08 election. The liberal attack plan is to tie the Republican party to constant corruption. Try to make repubs to look as if they are so corrupt that they need to be kicked out of office.

It is a hypocritical move that is going to back fire on them and has already begun. They are relying on the same pollsters who said that Kerry was ahead in the 04 election.

This whole call for investigations on very shakey grounds is all about power. The socialist communists want it and they are willing to lie, misdirect, misrepresent, and what ever other underhanded thing they can come up with. In their world the end always justifies the means. You know those beloved grey areas.

Yep, all those Americans who are disgusted with corruption are socialist communists.

Both parties are guilty, of course, but the GOP has embraced corruption to an unprecendented degree. We've got very lowered expectations for our leaders, but not that low, I think.

This one won't just be about adultery in the oval office.

'Cause he won't be a senator no more. At least, at this point, unless he runs as an Independent or a Republican (have they had their Connecticutt primaries yet?), he won't be re-elected.

Then why didn't you notice what the citations are? Or did you notice and disregard in favor of a snappish sound bite?

Weisenheimer? Calling your fellow posters names is so childish! :tongue3:

Maybe, maybe not. I hope that if they proceed, it will be on solid legal grounds and not just an open-ended trillion dollar fishing expedition.

Yeah, because that is on exactly the same level as invading a country on false pretenses, violating citizens' rights and kidnapping and torturing foreign nationals.

Btw, that particular bad argument is known as "Tu quoque!" - which means, "You too." In other words, if Conyers was a mass serial killer, responsible of upwards of a hundred thousand deaths, it still would not affect the validity of the Report.
