Charles do you use e-sword? If not, check it out... www.e-sword.net
It is a free Bible software program..

It has the old ones as well as the newer ones... I have from Wycliffe, Geneva, 1611, 1769, plus KJV2000.. and the other MVs as well...
along with a bunch of commetaries, and dictionaries, maps, illustrations, and other works...

There are literally hundreds of books to download into e-sword...
    And they are free...

It would be a good resource for any Christian..
And I know you haven't been around here that long.. so you may have missed a thread or two that was talking about it...

Thank you Brotyher Tinytim. It is hard to be a practicing
    Berean :godisgood:

Act 17:10-11 (Geneva Bible, 1587 Edition):
And the brethren immediatly sent away
Paul and Silas by night vnto Berea,
which when they were come thither,
entred into ye Synagogue of the Iewes.
11 These were also more noble men then
    they which were at Thessalonica
    , which
receiued the woorde with all readinesse,
    and searched the Scriptures daily,
    whether those things were so
    .

It gets even harder when people tell you the
wrong book in which to look :(

You are generally correct, as to duration of (most) copyrights, where individuals are concerned. I was using a general 'rounding' of figures, as I mentioned 100 years or so.

However, there are some exceptions, so the time may be a bit more, or a bit less, for some things.

An example of Copyrights that I am familiar with, on Bible Gateway, for example, is the availability of some 20 different English versions. The KJV, DARBY, YLT, ASV, are in the "Public Domain", in the USA, as to the text, on the Bible Gateway site. The WYC, with its updated spelling, is the personal property of one Terrence P. Noble, a Canadian, and is for personal use only. The rest of the English versions are under one or more copyrights, with the NASB having a total of 10, by the Lockman Foundation, for the greatest number. Not exactly sure why the NASB needs 10 or the AMP needs 6, while NKJV, KJ21, NCV, NLV, and WE need only one each, however.

Charles, I am glad you like e-sword. It is what I use most...

Also, let me explain why you get certain responses when you say you use KJV 1611...

If you drive around the country, you will see churches that state that they only use the KJV1611 on their signs...
You see it in their advertising....and bulletins.

BUT... when you actually interact with them, you will see that they do not use the 1611, but the KJV1769... but yet they claim the 1611...

That is dishonest... and what they need to do is either use the 1611... and praise Iesus....
Or admit they use the 1769, and quit lying about what they use...

I personally don't care what a church decides to use, but they should not be lying about it!

So when a person comes to BB.. and claims "1611" but keeps quoting from the 1769... it sends up a red flag...

If you are a 1611 KJV person... then don't be ashamed to use the 1611... but please use it... and not a 1769.

At least be consistant when quoting scripture...

That is why I gave you the link to e-sword.. because it has the 1611, and you can quote from it.

Do you actually own a printed 1611... there are sites out there that sells them quite inexpensively... and to be consistant, you need to carry one of those to church too....

Of course, if you just claim to use the "KJV", then it doesn't matter....
which version of the KJV you use... you would still be honest...

One thing you will see when you get your hands on a real 1611... is the varient texts in the margins... just like the NIV has in it's footnotes... amazing... but today's KJVs leave this out...

You will also see the extra books of the Bible that today's KJVs take away from. Are they supposed to be there? YOu know, like Maccabees?

If so, then why did the modern KJVs take them out?
If not, then why did the 1611 add them...

Remember it is just as bad to add to the Word of God as it is to take away.

These are questions you will have to settle in your mind....
Along with the problem that Jesus didn't use the same underlying text the KJV uses in the OT...
To be Christ like, shouldn't we use the same text He does...
I think so... and it is clear the KJV doesn't use the same text Jesus did...

Just compare His quotes of the OT with the OT in the KJV...
This you can do for yourself...

This actually was what changed my mind about being kJVO.

    I hope this helps.
