Makes no difference. That wasn't the point. The point was that Javert demanded more than the legal penalty. The justice of the original theft had nothing to do with the theme of law and grace.

The parallel further breaks down when we see a man trying to provide for his family instead of a man choosing on his own to give away food he had no right to give away.

and how much of that gross profit went to taxes?

just curious as to what their net profit was.

Also, has anyone asked CB the reason for the policy?

Having already been warned several times, this wasn't something he was trying to avoid; it was something he was blatantly ignoring.

Something else: although someone made the comment that anyone claiming to get sick from a muffin was remote and nearly impossible, let's consider: Why do they have such policies? Because it's happened at least once to some business somewhere. When most of us were kids, would we have ever considered it possible that someone would sue McDonald's because they spilled their coffee in their lap--much less won the case?

To sum it up, if you own a business and hire CTB, be sure and hire extra security.

Question, and answer. Crabtownboy says it's OK to steal, and you have a bad heart if you don't agree.

    JWP was correct.

I know of only one squeaky clean honest person to transcend this planet--we crucified Him.

The guy was warned. He may have left the company no choice.

The curious thing is: why did such a petty thing become such an issue?

Better to send the beggars behind the building to the dumpster.

Now it is really an issue.

Try to reimburse your employer for all the petty things you may have taken such as a free copy from the company printer or checking your personal e-mail on company time, or taking five minutes extra for lunch, or taking a company pencil home for personal use...ad infinitum. We are all guilty of something like this.

We will all give an account of every deed.

    Now what?

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

My Dad had a saying when I was a kid that I believe is true, and sums the argument up. "It is never right to do wrong in order to do right." Regardless of CTB's intent to turn this into a compassion issue, it's not. He stole. Period. Did he do good? Yes. But doing good does not negate evil.

Somehow, I think this concept would mesh with Christ's teachings!!!:thumbs:
Seems to me that the reverse is the liberal mantra; "The end justifies the means."

A bit of a conflict, perhaps, between the two moralities?!?!:rolleyes:

This is addressed to Sapper: Agree, with exceptions. I have difficulty with the word: never.

If the wife is delivering a baby on the way to the hospital, I will probably break several traffic laws in an attempt to get to the hospital. Bad for good.

In a war zone, a frightened woman shows up at my op in the middle of the night-- what do I do? She looks pregnant. Maybe it is a satchel charge around the waist. Maybe pregnant and a satchel charge. Platoon leader not available. Now what? Depends on the situation, right. This was a real world scenario in Southeast Asia. We are required by oath and regulation to obey only lawful orders. Some written and some verbal orders are unlawful. Lt. Calley found this out--the hard way. Good luck sorting the lawful from the unlawful in the wonderful world of satchel charges on civilians.

It is not legal to use appropriated funds for Christmas decorations, but we do.

Tough situation--blown way out of proportion.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I believe if folk would go back and review my posts they would see that my protest is the corporate policy. After reviewing CB's Facebook page I am not sure that the corporate policy has been reported accurately. One person said they worked at CB for a number of years posted that when a person showed up saying they were homeless or broke they were always given a bowl of pinto beans and cornbread. That is a policy I would applaud.

Perhaps it was a store manager who made the decision, not the corporation. So far I have not found a definitive statement on this. If it is not a corporate policy it might well be that manager is in trouble for bringing so much negative publicity to the corporation. I would like to know for sure.

That was answered, too. You're wrong no matter how you try to justify it.
You just don't get it, do you? You're totally oblivious to the gist of the problem. The employee stole from the employer. End of story. No "exploring the company policy" posts change the facts.

Give up. You're beat. Admit it and wait for the next non-issue to come up that you can attempt to create a firestorm over.

I would rather be known as trying to help some person in need than in being preciousness and mean spirited.

You and others remind me of the defense that former Nazis used during the Nuremberg trails, "I was just following orders."

Nazi's?! Really? Is that all you got? Is your bag of wrong comparisons completely empty at this point?

Why don't you try to help them by stealing an apple from a fruit stand and handing it to them? See what that gleans for you.

I guess that beats the "race" card you usually use.
