I started a poll on this some time ago, but I could not find it. I will try to re-construct it to the best of my memory.
I am doing this as there is a lively discussion about Creation currently going.

NOTE: This is a multi choice poll - in fact with the questions I asked, you should have no less then two answers!!!

PS: and please do not "quote" more than ten lines - Please, pretty please

The Bible says 6 days. It says Morning and evening, one day. So I'm going to stick with the Bible for what it says and say 6 24 hour days. i have no reason to extend the days.

As Moses wrote the Book of Genesis under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit---I believe with all my heart that he(Moses) knew EXACTLY what the Holy Spirit was conveying

6 Twenty four hour days---from the Hebrew perspective of "Evening and Morning" instead of our "Morning and Evening"

The Bible says that Moses was educated in the ways of Egypt---so it would be possible that he was educated in the theory of evolution----but yet when he(Moses) wrote Genesis----the theory of evolution and the earth being zillions and zillions of yrs old----"flew out the window" along with every other false idea the Egyptians dreamed up in that day!!!

There is only room for 10 choices - I was trying to be as broad as I could - thus the wording "possible" ect.

and I normally have a "other" option

Disclaimer: I didn't vote in the poll.

I wanted to offer another understanding that I have heard (and that I'm sympathetic to), though I don't buy it completely.

Here's the view of which I speak:

6 twenty-four hour days, but the days were non-contiguous. In other words there was "Day 1" with an evening and a morning. After day 1, there was an intervening period of time. Some time later God chose to create the things that are a part of "Day 2." After day 2, there, again, was an intervening period of time. Some time later, God chose to create the things that are a part of "Day 3." And so on and so on.

This keeps 6 twenty-four hour days (which the Bible strongly suggests) and it allows for age at the same time. All the while, this allows for a creating God to create everything ex nihilo in very small amounts of time, which keeps us out of the untenable area of evolution.

    That's just another idea.

    Blessings,

    The Archangel

You cannot reconcile the creation account in Gen. 1 with modern scientific theory. Time is only one of many problems presented.

    1) Earth was created on the same day as the heavens or space.
    2) The Earth was created before the Sun, Moon, and stars.
    3) There was day and night on Earth before the Sun was created
    4) Plant life was created before the Sun, birds, and insects of which plant life is dependent upon. Could plants survive long periods without sunlight, birds, and insects?
    5) The first animal mentioned is the whale, the largest animal ever, modern science teaches life began with the smallest creatures and remained so for many millions of years.

So, if you think explaining the six days in Genesis 1 as long ages will reconcile the scriptures with modern theory, think again.

So, then, are we to understand that you reject the creation account in Genesis?

No, I believe it. I believe God created the world in six 24 hour days. I believe the world around 6000 years old.

I was simply explaining that we cannot reconcile the creation account with modern "science" by believeing each day was a long age.

There are just too many unknowns in the overall question.

For me, and many others, it isn't about the how of creation but the who.

We cannot know with any final certainty about the exact details of creation. That is okay. When science attempts to speak to us about the cosmological details moves solidly into philosophy. We shouldn't be deceived about it.

That said I've studied the Genesis accounts in chapters 1 and 2 and worked through a lot of data from a ton of sources. The language of the first account seems to particular to be attempting a modern scientific recitation of fact and more a polemical rebuttal to pagan creation myths contemporary of the early Israelite Joshua conquests. Of course it is a premodern text that shouldn't be subjected to an overly modern scrutiny.

The things given by the Spirit to Moses were physical pictures of spiritual truths. The tabernacle was a representation ("pattern") of God's surroundings. The Law was a picture of what was required spiritually. Why wouldn't Moses being given the creation account be the same thing? Seems like believing that the 6/24 describes primarily a physical reality, is like believing that God actually dwells (or ever dwelt) in a small curtained-off room.
