Last night, when I was out walking my dog, I was thinking about Dr. Ergun Caner (President of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary). I was trying to remember if Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary's homepage said that he had earned an MA-History degree from Criswell College. I just checked and I was correct (see here). However, Criswell College does not currently offer a MA-History degree. At this time all they offer is a Master of Arts in Theological and Biblical Studies with a Systematic/Historical Theology track (here). --Does anyone here know if: A. This was the degree Caner is referring to as an MA-History. B. Criswell College once offered an MA-History degree (or similar degree). If the answer is "A", no big deal. After all, an MA degree in Theological and Biblical Studies with a Systematic/Historical Theology track is a "church history" version of the MA-History degree. For example, Liberty University offers a Master of Arts in Religious Studies studies degree with a Church History concentration. Take away all the extra wording and that is really an MA-History degree (here). Other seminaries do the same thing. If the answer is "B", does anyone know why Criswell stopped offering the MA-History degree? I was glad to see Liberty University start a MA-History program (here) and I hope to see many other Christian schools follow them. We need more Christian historians than we currently have.
