And you know exactly what his original post meant, there are those on this board who do not believe the words of God are true.

The last thing we need is more government invading our homes, attacking every christian home just becasue some people like this claim christianity or some form of it. This man should be accountable, as should those who told them to not to seek medical help. Undiagnosed disease is one thing, but this girls was in obvious serious trouble.

As for the parents in this case, they should spend the remainder of their life in prison. The government has a duty to protect children with negligent parents.

 

I agree these parents should be prosecuted, but there is nothing society can do to compare with what this couple will have to live with. I'm not saying they don't deserve to go to jail, but these parents lives are essentially over. I know if I did that to my daughter, I would not be able to live with myself.

I agree with Robert. This is not a case of premeditated murder, at most, it's a negligent homicide, kinda like Ted Kennedy's.

 

The Bible provides only one example of an innocent person, and I would submit to you that HE cannot be led astray. That passage is talking about placing a stumbling block in front of a child of God, and not necessarily a child.

Now, how is it more profitable for one to have a millstone bound around his/her neck and he/her cast into the sea, when in the very next passage Christ teaches us that if one does so offend us, yet repents, we are to forgive him/her and likewise, if he/she does so seven times and yet turns to us in each time and repents, then we are in each case to forgive the offense. Nowhere is he exhorting us to think it better for that person to be cast into the sea with a millstone about his/her neck. In fact, in context of both ch. 16 and the whole of ch. 17 he is teaching us away from Pharisaical response to offense and toward an increase in our faith (even to the level of a mustard seed) in order that we can forgive a repentant offender. Now, why would he tell us that even as the one who does offend in the opening of chapter 17, we too, even doing all that is commanded of us (thus our duty) we say we are unprofitable servants? vss. 7-10;

I don't know. I have heard of similar cases where the parents do the same thing again, all in the name of religion gone bad. I see your point, but many folks like this go to their grave thinking they did right. After all, what is a child's life compared to obeying God? Not rational at all.

 

There are times when a person's beliefs are detrimental. I know of a man who was a in a religious cult, and his blood levels(hemoglobin and hematocrit) were CRITICALLY low. I was preparing his crossmatch, when the ER nurses told me he wouldn't take in blood due to his religion. He died a few days later. He was an adult male, so he had the final say, whereas this eleven year old girl was unconsceinsce(sp?) and it was the responsibility of the parents to protect her, and they dropped the ball.

However, in the medical field, we have to be cognizant of each patient's religious beliefs(even if we don't agree with them), and do the best we can with "tied hands". Remember, we have leeches(lawyers) that will take any and all cases, just to make a few bucks. But, the parents in this case should be held accountable.

Well, I am closing this since it is on page 3, but I am going to make a comment.....right now, this man is found guilty. Under Obamacare, lack of medical care will be the norm and then who will be found guilty? Who will find our government guilty of murder?

Something to think about as what is against the law today may become the norm tomorrow under the proposed healthcare plan that passed the House. But is it only a crime when individuals deprive healthcare or will it also be a crime when our government deprives healthcare?
