Daniel In The ESV and TNIV

The ESV will be at the top and the TNIV will be below .

1:5 __ were to stand before the king

to interpret the dream for me

they could not interpret it for me

4:19 __ May the dream be for those who hate you and its interpretation for your enemies !
If only the dream applied to your enemies and its meaning to your adversaries !

4:27 __ May perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity
It may be that your prosperity will continue

4:31 __ there fell a voice from heaven
a voice came from heaven

4:34 __ At the end of the days
At the end of that time

4:36 __ still more greatness was added to me
became even greater than before

5:10 __ Let not your thoughts alarm you or your color change .
Don't be alarmed ! Don't look so pale !

5:20 __ But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly , he was brought down from his kingly throne , and his glory was taken from him .
But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride , he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory .

boastful words

7:12 __ for a season and a time
a period of time

7:28 __ my color changed
my face turned pale

8:23 __ of bold face
fierce-looking

9:16 __ have become a byword
an object of scorn

10:5 __ lifted up my eyes
I looked up

10:7 __ a great terror fell upon them ( In the Heb. )
terror overwhelmed them

10:8 __ my radiant appearance was fearfully changed
my face turned deathy pale

10:16 __ I retained no strength
I feel very weak

10:17 __ No breath is left in me
I can hardly breathe

11:17 __ He shall set his face to come
He will determine to come

11:20 __ an exactor of tribute for the glory of the kingdom
a tax collector to maintain the royal splendor

11:36 __ till the indignation is accomplished
until the time of wrath is completed

11:40 __ He shall come into countries and shall overflow and pass through
He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood
Heb.= will overflow and pass over . But isn't the TNIV rendering a better way of conveying the thought ?

12:10 __ Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined
Many will be purified , made spotless and refined
There is an important difference between these two wordings . Do the many purify themselves as the ESV has it ? In the TNIV rendering it allows God to be the agent of change , not man .

12:13 __ shall stand in your allotted place
will rise to receive your allotted inheritance
