In an effort to find a story that SALTCITYBAPTIST asked for, I stumbled across this site and this story. I realize it's not "cutting edge" news, but I was really taken aback. What do you think?

Money does not have God, at least the God described in the scriptures, anywhere on it. Marking through a word has no effect on that reality.

Frankly, I would be happy for that particular misappropriation of God's "name" to be removed from our money, since the money in our country is most often used to further our selfish, faithless interests instead of true trust in God.

I fully expect some folks to get worked up over that last statement, but if you believe the Christian faith or the nation's spiritual nature would be negatively affected by that deletion, then you have more problems than can be addressed in this thread.

Well said. It's more relevant that "In God we Trust" has been written out of the hearts of Americans than it being stamped out on unrighteous mammon by a heathen unbeliever.

I guess this proves that the other side can be just as silly as we can be sometimes

Hey I am new. I look forward to getting to know you guys and girls. I am torn by issues like this. In one sense I do not think removing God's name from money will have much of an impact. Also I get kind of annoyed by the dramatic reaction many Christians have to it. But then again this country was founded on divinely revealed laws. I realize that a majority of the founding fathers were deists but still they thought providence guided the establishment of the constitution. And as I see Western Europe decline into the abyss of rationalism and atheism I long to keep our religious traditions in place.

I hope to make some good contributions to this board. I am a paleoconservative with a few liberal leanings. I love small government and believe in sticking to the constitution. I am skeptical of free trade and am moderate conservative on social issues. I believe in realistic foreign policy and have been opposed to the Iraq war from the beginning. Now that you know some of my beliefs I look forward to debate.

Is God's name "God"? I agree that it will not have much impact and go one step further replacing "much" with "any". Even if this country were founded on divinely revealed laws, why would having "In God We Trust" on our money be a contradiction of its absence not having an impact? I don't see why you're torn about this.

The majority of the founding fathers were Christian, with Deists and Unitarians in the minority.

Our religious tradition is separation of Church and State; otherwise, we are free to follow whichever tradititons (even newly created ones) we choose.

Hi, I'm liberal-moderate-independent, so you will probably find much to debate with me. I also have been opposed to the Iraq war from the beginning, but are our reasons similar and do we agree on where to go from here? We'll see....

Welcome aboard! You'll have all the opportunity you can handle to express your viewpoints -- and you'll have feedback from a wide variety of beliefs. Most of us aren't easily labelled -- education changes our views, as do world events. The only thing firm about mine is that Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Savior, through the grace of God.

As to the OP -- Only in the fact that the removal of existing references to God has the appearance of an attack on believers is there any interest in this subject. I prefer not to be concerned. Outward signs of salvation are more important than words on government issued material.

As a Baptist, I do support there not being a government instituted belief system. Of course, I consider atheism to be a belief system, too.

I did, but please do not consider it an endorsement of the man so much as an endorsement of a certain combination of words he put together.

Thank you for the kind words.

Oh, no: of course not. I was delighted to see someone who could quote him though. He is not exactly a person who is widely read.

No problem at all - such an easy thing to do when warranted.

Hope your weekend is as great as mine,
