Great Op/Ed from the Knoxville News Sentinel:

    http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/nov/09/back-to-basics/

    From the piece:

"Foremost, re-read the Constitution you will swear to uphold and protect shortly. Know it and the limitations it places upon your position. If people actually studied the document, they might be surprised to find just how far we have strayed from our founders' intent."

he's already told us his plans for the constution. It needs changed, rewritten.
We also know he believes in disregarding it when it suits him, the constution says we have the right to life, well in obamas opinion not all have that right, infants for instance do not.

You keep posting this - he said no such thing. He simply said it was imperfect as it reflected the views of he 18th century. It did that nadhas been amended to bring it up to date.

I am probably amongst the strictest consitutionalists on the board, but Obama never said it needed to be written.

Not as badly as Bush did ... and surely he will not trample our civil rights as Bush did.

Does every single anti-Obama thread have to become an anti-Bush/McCain/Palin thread and vice-versa?

Only as long as people continue to make extreme prophetic nasty remarks. We know the past. We do not know the future. Give the man a break and see what he will do. There will be plenty of time for showing displeasure later.

Sorry, but the OP did no such thing. It addressed how we would be in for a shock if we stuck to the constitutional definitions of the President's role...

Why rewrite it when he can stack the Supreme Court to redefine what it meant?

Look it's gonna be OK for a few more months...

He's already got his people looking at how many Bush exceutive orders he can reverse with his own Executive Orders...

First, he will "encourage" Conservative Justices to retire, then replace them...

Then he will pass the most opressive gun control legislation even worse than the UK or Australia.

Then... The Constitution won't matter any more...

Our only recourse will be God Himself...

And, when Israel demanded a King.. He let them have and regret what they wanted... Wanna bet He smailes and says, "Enjoy"...

How many of the Republican appointees do you think will resign under Obama?

Only John Paul Stephens is of a worrisome age, but who knows? He may live to be 96. The others are in their early 70s and younger. You think they are going to resign and give Obama a chance to replace them?

    Good Points. We can Hope.

Maybe we should start a "Friend of the Court" letter writing campaing begging them to stay and offering to pray and actually Praying for them every day?

I hope they have the "guts" and "stamina" to stick it out.

As a Melocholy I rend to Pray and Hope for the best and forewarn of the worst. :)

I can only hope that after all the Secure Briefings are concluded that it will mute some of the Bush Hatred and Revenge drive...

But, I don't know... I keep seeing the faces of those that hate us in high office talking about "getting even".

Thankfully, my "retirement estate" isn't on this earth or dependent upon any human president.

He certainly said he would appoint Justices who would rewrite it, though not formally.:tonofbricks:

The Constitution has been a dead issue since the Lincoln Revolution.

Yes. Hacks can do nothing else. They have nothing else to add. They can't help it

I believe it was at the SaddleBack Forum. As far as I know those are the only comments he made that can be referenced. However, I heard him say it. You can Google the Saddlebook discussions. I believe he stated he wanted judges who would show compassion based on creed, race, finances, etc.

Indeed, in setting forth the sort of judges he would appoint, Obama has explicitly declared: "We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom, the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old--and that's the criterion by which I'll be selecting my judges." So much for the judicial virtue of dispassion. So much for a craft of judging that is distinct from politics.
