The mother of the slain young man called for the death penalty for the police officer.

Brown's mother, Lesley McSpadden, said he had graduated from high school and was about to enter a local college. She said she doesn't understand why police didn't subdue her son with a club or Taser, and she said the officer involved should be fired and prosecuted.

"I would like to see him go to jail with the death penalty," she said, fighting back tears.

So she believes her son needed to be "subdued"?

    Interesting.

That is interesting. And what if he was going for the officer's gun, what then? Should he have reached for a club or taser while some big fella' is trying to get his gun?

If as reports and eyewitness accounts have said, that he was 35 feet away, then I too would have wondered why something else other than shooting to kill couldn't have been done to "subdue" him.

But that's why I've always wondered if police forces are now being told to shot to kill and worry about the consequences later.

What I really can't get my head around is how many folks who claim to be pro-life thinks this kid, somebody's son, got what he deserved?

And I got to say again that releasing the officer's name the way that they did creates something of a dangerous situation for future officers and police activity. You will have people who may end up having their ability to quickly make a good decision hindered by whether or not they are gonna be put on blast in the media.

    Derail much?

If the officer killed in cold blood, I would agree that the death penalty would be in order. But evidence is already showing that it wasn't the case. So far, every piece of evidence is pointing to self defense of some kind.

That's not to say that the officer didn't use more force than was necessary. We don't know.

But the Mother straight up admitting that her son needed subduing says a lot. A whole lot.

No derail. Just a question that doesn't have to be answered or acknowledged. Just is what it is.

That part I just don't get. If you were in my back yard and I shot you from 35 feet away, I'd face charges. How is it viewed as self defense to shoot dead an unarmed person who is the good length of a house away from you?

Well he obviously did as the young, unarmed man is dead. That doesn't sound like self defense when the kid possibly could have been deterred with a shot elsewhere. But it's hard to second guess why the officer shot to kill unless there's a history of officers being trained this way whether than choosing another option.

It does say a whole lot. It says to me that she's wondering just like me and others why , if the kid was 35 feet away and closing, something else couldn't have been done to subdue him other than shooting to kill him?

And this is where the complaints from the black community have arisen. It seems to be shoot to kill more times than not when it comes to officers dealing with black suspects. Why isn't it the same with white suspects? Why again and again do we keep getting these stories about white police officers shooting and killing unarmed black suspects?

You haven't been around the segment of the black community that is doing this looting very much if you don't understand that is exactly how they speak. Heck, I play basketball with black guys that are completely on the up and up, would never be involved in any criminal activity, and this is exactly how they speak.

If you have a problem with that speech, then you have a problem with a large segment of the black community.

This is a CHRISTIAN board. It doesn't matter what other folks do. We deal with what goes on INSIDE the church.

I have a large problem with folks INSIDE the church doing it. I don't care if you're black, blue, white, purple or polka-dotted outside the church doing it.

It's this side that you're showing that is on display by so many in the church who now feel that because they say it, I can say whatever I want. Or because they do this, we're fed up and we can do that.

    It displays NOTHING of Christ.

I understand the point you were trying to make. But we should be Ephesians 5 men and women.

I am trying to find out if the people who are against capital punishment wouldn't be for it in this case.

I'm 100% against capital punishment. And if it were my own family member(again) who died at the hands of another, it wouldn't change because of The Cross and the completed work of Jesus Christ.

Taking another life is NEVER the closure that people like to tell you it is. I believe the follower of Christ must forgive and beg for mercy as though it was his own life. My God, My God. If you want closure...if you want to be set free in the forgiveness of Jesus Christ...if you want to possibly point someone to Jesus who has never been shown grace and mercy and who is always getting what "he deserves", plead for his life. Call on the name of Jesus on his behalf. Beg before men for his life and watch the hand of JESUS start to move!!!

You believe in evolution, don't you? How are you going to stamp out lower forms of evolution like racists without executions?

Capital punishment has no place in a civilized society. Period.

If the officer is prosecuted, tried, and convicted, he should face the stiffest penalty short of that, that is available. Particularly since he is to be held to a high standard, being an officer of the law.

I believe in a 6 day Creation because that's what the word of GOD says.Vengeance and life and death can rightly and justly be handled by God and that Christians don't get THAT in lieu of the Cross is a shame.

But it's also why folks view the pro-life stance of Christian "conservative" evangelicals as politics and not conviction.

Oh, well, you really are Christian left but most of them believe in evolution. You must have to keep quiet about evolution around the others in the Christian left.

I have no problem being Christian left if the Christian left is aligned with the word of God.

As I've said before , the so called- Christian right might be POLITICALLY conservative, but SPIRITUALLY yall are about as liberally distant from the Way of Christ that one can just about get.

Why? Folks on the left have to be rebuked and corrected just as much as you folks on the right. Lucky for me I don't care which side any of you are on. If you're in the Body of Christ, act like it.

I am for capital punishment. And as I've said, I'd be all for it if the officer was found to have killed in cold blood.

But that seems to be a moot point, the way the evidence is pointing.

    The verdict is already in?

It seems that the verdict from the court of public opinion, well the court of irrational public opinion, has already found this cop guilty.

I am going to stay on the middle ground, and wait and see what everything points. I have a feeling, there is more than what biased, white hating witnesses have proposed as being the truth and nothing but it ....

I might agree with you IF we lived in a civilized society.

Now from a Biblical point of view - does the Bible prohibit the death penalty?
