After my debate with Tysixius finishes I'd like to debate a theist on the
issue of debt. I doubt a Atheist or a Agnostic can debate me on this one,
since the debate scope in this one seems more Theist related. No we are not
debating theology here, but we are debating doctrine.

There is a faction of Christians (mostly King James Only Fundamentalists)
that believe its a sin to be or go into debt. Some of these people are
pastors and in authority positions. Based on my own exegetical studies of
the bible I think these people have misinterpreted the scriptures. However
it would make sense from a King James only fundamentalists worldview why
they would hold to such a position.

Rom 13:8 KJV Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that
loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

On the contrary the NIV says to not let any debt remain outstanding
which implies that one must pay on their debts, but this does not mean that
    one cannot take on debts.

I myself am a Fundamentalist but not a King James Only Fundamentalist and
think this debate would be best between myself and another Fundamentalist.
However if there are evangelicals or Pentecostal Charismatics here that do
not believe in debt, then I will gladly welcome the challenge.

God bless and I look forward to this.

    To the mods:

Bible John probably posted this in the other forum because he can't post in the Baptist forums.

Question for you, do you not believe the the KJV is the word of God? And anyone using it is using an imperfect Bible?
Just about every thread I have read of yours puts the KJV down in some way.

I ask that because that is what I use and if you will not consider it as a useful source then there is no point in debating this issue with you.

John, just how to do you separate your doctrine from your theology?

If I misunderstood you here, please explain what you mean.

Something is wrong here. I agree with Dale C. I very much respect the KJV as the word of God. I use the NKJV and sometimes read the NIV studying to clarify. Unless it is a paraphrase that changes the original meaning, I see no useful purpose in putting down another version. I am not sure what you mean about debating debt, but it is a good subject to discuss in relation to the Bible.

    I agree.
It seems that John is trying to say he wants a debate but you can't use the KJV because he will just say that isn't valid.
I may be wrong but that is what it looks like.

It is a good topic to discuss though since so many Christians are in debt out of control.

Proverbs 22:7 says the borrower is slave to the lender. That to me suggests that Christians should avoid it if possible. One can only have one Master. Now, there is nothing in the Word to prohibit debt, but there are clear principles for a fair days work for a fair days wage, and also the principle that God supplies our needs through faith.

Of course, in modern day America, its next to impossible to buy a house without it. A car and credit cards are another matter. There is also the tithe to consider. I would say debt is ok for needs, not wants. Pay it off quickly, and dont go into debt unless you can pay it off and pay off early. Money management should be a skill people learned before adulthood. Its just common sense.

Those with uncontrolled credit card debt for ignorant purchases that are living in excess beyond their means are living a worldly life and need to get their budget in check and live like a Christian, being thankful for what we have and not more, more, more. Kind of like a credit card at McDonalds in the ultimate example of stupidity, as is making payments on a pet.

I seperate it because I have been to school and can differiantate between the two.

I do not have the time to get into this, but if you do research you will discover over 9 different branches of theological study.

Doctrine is only and primarly concerned with the study and exegesis of the bible alone.

Dale like I said. If you want to debate me please do so. But I have no interested in addressing your pointless comments.

No where did I ever say that the KJV is not the word of God. You said this.

Please do not put words in my mouth

Like I said I believe you are wrong. And wish to challenge you in a formal envirobnment where there are rules.

This is not formal and there are no rules.

Please follow the link in my original post and go there.

You may use the KJV, and I will use the KJV and address it. But tyhe KJV is not perfect. The KJV like the NIV has problems. The only perfect translation is the original autographs. The bible we have today is great and is inspired by God. But the KJV is not directly inspired by God. It is a copy of a insopired document.

    Please meet me on IIdb.org

Just today for example I had to put a large amount on my CC to cover costs that my insurance would not.

    I had no choice.

I need a better paying job, or I need better teeth.

I went to that link you gave and here's what I can say:

You claim to be a Christian, blood-washed, blood-bought, clean every whit Christian.
What in heaven's name are you doing in a pig sty?
And why drag a brother there ?

I'm amazed at the lack of logic by some christians.

I'm amazed that many are not ready to give a defense for the hope that they have (1 Pet 3:15, NASB).

    Atheists embarass some christians.

I think fiscal mismanagement is irresponsible, but hardly a basic biblical topic whether KJV or any other version.

Certainly there is a life principle involved. If we over indulge in spending more than we earn, eventually it catches up. One needs to sit with a financial counsellor, not a spiritual guide.

I don't think there is any debate in this. We can quote scripture until we are blue in the face, and it won't change the picture one iota.

God is faithful and just and He even supports idiots by times. He even supported me when I made bad choices.

    Cheers,

    Jim
