It looks like Senator McCain is more interested in winning the support of liberal Democrats instead of the support of limited government conservatives.

Pawlenty: McCain will compete for Clinton backers

John McCain portrayed her as a trailblazing model for aspring female politicians yesterday and now one of his top surrogates and vice-presidential prospects is taking the next natural step and promising that they'll compete for Hillary Clinton's supporters.

"I think many of those voters are going to consider and support Senator McCain," said Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty in an afternoon conference calldesigned to prebut Obama's speech tonight in St. Paul.

Perhaps Sidney should offer her the chance to be his running mate. :tonofbricks:

Frankly, I think she would fit in well with his campaign.

If limited government conservatives turn their backs on their principles and vote for Senator McCain, then they lose even if Senator McCain wins the general election. No movement wins by turning its back on its principles regardless of the results of an election.

The smartest thing McCain could do would be to offer Hillary the VP...
But that will never happen, because he is not that smart!

He will not get a true conservative's vote.
    He knows that.

His only chance is to steal votes from Obama.

We Republicans lost this with the low quality candidates we ran in the primary.

    Obama will win..
Am I happy? NO.... but realistic.

McCain has lost the conservative base.
And has no chance of winning enough Democrats to defeat Obama.

You are dead right. We have known for a while now that we were going to have two Democrats running against each other in November, but conservative Evangelicals will swarm to McCain because "it could be worse."

I am sick of "it could be worse." I still wonder just how liberal a so called "Republican" will have to be before he/she loses the support of the "religious right."

Do you have a reasonable alternative to propose for the "religious right" that will cure your sickness this election?

If Bob Barr is on the Alabama ballot I will probably vote for him. I am sick of my vote, as a conservative evangelical, being taken for granted by the Republicans. They know they have "us" so other than a few nice words, they can now now ignore us.

    The key word was "reasonable".

How far will the Republicans have to go before they lose your support?

Or is at assured no matter what they do?

Like when you turned your back on principles to support Obama?

The party has yet a way to fall, but it can still be salvaged, but the conservative right must not abandon her yet. Again, whether you like it or not, to abstain from McCain, is to elect Obama, the most despicable candidate the Christian community has ever seen, on every level.

It's not a matter of how far Republicans go.

It's a matter of viable alternatives. There aren't any.

Voting for Barr assures us the worst will happen. A far left liberal will be elected.

Your cure helps spread the disease.

    Thank you Roger...

You have made sense.... McCain has already lost my vote... Obama never had it....

It is time we look toward 2012 or 2016... We evangelicals need to send a message to the Republican party this fall that we will not be taken for granted...

If all conservatives would back someone like Barr...
Obama will win... but truly, why is that so much worse than McCain winning...

Obama will win.. but the Republicans will not ignore us next time!

I will seriously consider Barr now....
I haven't made up my mind, but I will seriously look at him, and if what I find is favorable, I will tell all my friends the same thing...

Thanks you gave me something to chew on!

It would be worse because of the court nominees if nothing else. Libertartians are fiscally conservative but liberal every where else. Not a truely conservative option. If conservatives were to actaully want to make a statement we would get Keys on th ballot and vote for him win or lose.

What kind of folks would a President McCain nominate and get approved given that the Democrats will probably gain at least 5 Senate seats?

I was praying for a McCain defeat, and a destruction of the current GOP.

But then the stupid democrats go and nominate the only guy he could beat.

Just like 2004, you were so sure that America hated Bush so much that anyone could beat him, and so you nominated the biggest boob the dems had, and got me to vote republican for the first time in my life.

You are so willing to pay for a wrong we corrected long ago, with lots of white Anglo-saxon blood, I may add, that you are going to throw this complete empty suit up there.
