The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has launched an online petition to express outrage at conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh for saying he wanted President Obama to "fail."

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world -- the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," the petition reads. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks -- sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

And so it begins. Pretty soon Christians and other conservatives will no longer have free speech. They are going to do all they can to silence any opposition, especially on radio, tv, etc. If they can get conservative radio hosts off the air, church services (on radio and tv) and Christian radio will be next, mark my words.

Did you even read the OP? There is no talk of censorship of anything. The Democratic Campaign Committe is exercising their free speech rights, expressing outrage:

Don't Democrats have the same rights to freedom of expression as Limbaugh? Sheesh!

Rev. do you agree with Rush? Do you want him to fail? If so, why are you against Americans having jobs, good health care, and the US being respected around the world?

ABC, my friend, I am going to discount your message. It must have been written in haste as you are too intelligent to believe what you just wrote. [This is very gently said.]

I've just got to ask, if RL is best ignored, then why not just ignore him? Why do the Dems continue to draw attention to him (not that I mind)?

I guess you'll have to ask the committee behind the petition.

Absolutely. They just can't find anyone with Rush's intellect and personality to attract the masses and meet him head on. I don't agree with everything he says and does, but Rush is a real threat to their agenda.

Crabby, I do believe that Obama and his followers will do all they can to silence their critics, even to the point of taking away our free speech. In my local paper here in WV, I have already read things like, "Get Rush off the air" and "(insert person's name) needs to be silenced." This is very dangerous. There is a difference in expressing outrage and trying to "silence" someone. I realize a petition is perfectly legal. However, I believe it's the start of something more sinister in this case. I hope I'm wrong.

Rush is an entertainer.....first and foremost. But he is brilliant, and I love to listen to him.

If he outrages liberals, I love it! It means he hit home.

I respectfully disagree with you on this one. I see Rush as more of a political comedian than anything else. I surely do not see him as a threat. He has a core following that will always defend him. There are a core group wh will never believe a word he says. However I believe the majority of Americans see him as what I just said, a political comedian ... or worse. And I do believe he laughs all the way to the bank. Why not? He's rich and getting richer with his political sermons.

I do not take Rush serously in the same way I do not take anyone seriously who is too far right or too far left.

I would say something about the just past administration silencing opponents, but I'd be accused of trying to derail the thread.

Whitehouse dot gov is saying they will re-arrange the media. It is quite apparent, after promising to end the war, that Obama first has to provide abortions, and silence his critics.

    Scary times.

While this was not addressed to me, I think it is illustrative of sloppy thinking. To desire that Obama's policies fail is not the same as being against Americans having jobs, good health care, and respect around the world. You have created a false dichotomy ... an either or proposition that is illegitimate. I am for Americans having jobs, good health care, and respect around the world.

Those things all existed long before Obama came on the scene. And I simply don't think Obama's policies will provide actual long term help.

    So don't create false dichotomies.

"*** Palin and Limbaugh: One of the things Republicans did very effectively during their 24-year run from '80 to '04 was define who the opposition was, whether it was raising the profile of a Michael Moore or a Jesse Jackson or someone from the most liberal or divisive wing of the Democratic Party (see Ted Kennedy or Hillary Clinton). Well, it appears Democrats in general, and President Obama specifically, seems to enjoy propping up two of the more divisive figures in the Republican Party, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. The more attention a Palin or a Limbaugh gets right now, the harder it will be for the Republican Party to pitch itself as a Big Tent party again. This is a dangerous period for the GOP, the party is, well, without definition. Is it a less-government, low-tax, fiscally responsible party? It’s hard to make that case after the last decade of governing. Because it's hard to define the GOP on issues right now, it becomes easier for the Democrats to paint the GOP with the brush of a personality like Limbaugh and Palin."

Since MSNBC recognizes the ultility of Obama using this tactic, they should have no problem when Republicans prop up such divisive figures as Rev Wright, Olbermann, Randi Rhodes, MoveOn et al. It's just good sense.
