My point OldRegular, is that there is no difference in man's faith. Faith is faith regardless of the object of faith.

One of God's Ten Commandments is "I am the Lord thy God, Thou Shalt have no other God's before me".

Since ALL gods are a matter of faith to the individual, that must mean that man is capable of having faith in more than one God or object of faith. God's commandment is that we have no other objects of faith that come before our faith in God. Did God give us the faith in those other gods? NO, not at all. God created man with the ability to have faith! He did not give man the faith, only the ability. Man develops faith in God based on the knowledge of God that man gains by hearing God's word. We then are not to allow our faith in other things to come before our faith in God.

For you to imply that I do not have faith in God makes you a LIAR, and a disobedient one at that, because God told us to judge not lest ye be judged. You are judging me yet you cannot see the truth, which makes you a false judge.

You are adding to Hebrews 11:1 by saying "this is the faith that God gives. That scripture does not say that God gives faith, it merely defines what faith is.

As for experiencing the Gift of God, I have faith in the promise that through my faith in God, I will receive Salvation which is the Gift of God to ALL men who have faith in God.

If you ever experience the Faith that is the Gift of God you will know the difference. Scripture tells us in Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This is the Faith that God gives. I earnestly hope that you will one day experience that Gift of God.
</font>[/QUOTE]And how can faith in the above examples not be the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen?
    1. All drivers hope other drivers obey traffic laws, and we never actually saw them complete driving school
    2. People worship other gods who they hope will save them, without ever seeing them.
    3. When we sit in a chair we hope the builder built it to hold us, and we can't see gravity!

Faith is faith! The Bible mention's no branches of faith except little and much!

    Wes asks:

    OldRegular,
Can you prove you contention that Faith is given to man by God?

    *************************************************

    1 Corinthians 12:

3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that NO MAN can say that Jesus is Lord, BUT BY THE HOLY GHOST.

4Now there are diversities of GIFTS , but the same Spirit.

5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same GOD WHICH WORKETH ALL IN ALL.

7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

    8For to one is GIVEN BY THE SPIRIT the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

    9To another FAITH by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

    Nice to meet you the1andonly,
Faith is the only quality that man MUST possess to be saved! Are you telling me that God must give that quality to man? And only those that God gives that quality to can be saved?

Then you would be a false teacher!

God created man to have the ability to have faith, or man could not do anything with "the gift" that God gives. If every man has the ability to have faith, and NO man has lived that did not or does not have that ability. Then what you are saying is that OLD CALVINIST Doctrine that God picks and chooses randomly among all the more than 10 Billion humans that have lived, are living and will live, those who will be saved.

Well Katy bar the church doors, there is no need of them.
Stop sending missionaries, there is no need of them.
Close the Seminaries, there is no need of them.
Burn all the bibles, there is no need of them.

Bibles did I say? But isn't that what scripture says is the source of FAITH? Faith cometh by hearing and Hearing by the Word of God? Isn't the bible commonly held to be the Word of God?

This must be another one of those errant teachings of the bible. Paul says faith is a gift of God, and then he says that faith cometh by hearing the word of God.

What about all those who haven't or won't hear the word of God, where do they get their faith in money, cars, homes, security, etc? They all do have faith in something. Did God give them their faith in riches? Did God give them their faith in physical abilities? Did God give them their faith in their government? They all have faith!

Care to think this through the1andonly?

    Wes,

The Bible nor anyone else (except you) on this Board is talking about faith in earthly things.

This is true: faith is a gift of God and it is given BY the Holy Spirit BY hearing the word of God.

If a man does not have faith then he is not elect.

I'm telling you that faith is a GIFT from God. I got that straight out of the Bible, and so did YOU. 1 Corinthians 12:3-9

If you have faith you are among the elect. If it is true faith. The faith that is given by God. So I'm not talking about the faith that is here today gone tomorrow.

Man doesn't have the ability to have faith in God unless it is by GOD. And the Bible does not say that God gives the ability to have faith.

No God does not pick and choose RANDOMLY. He picks and chooses SPECIFICLY.

To the contrary, Exodus 20 The First of the Ten commandments, God himself tells us that we are not to have any other God's that we have faith in more than we have faith in the Lord God Jehovah.

    All gods require faith!
You simply do not yet understand faith!

I am talking about faith in MY GOD. The God of the Bible and His Son Jesus Christ. This FAITH comes BY GOD, as a GIFT. 1 Corinthians 12:3-9

    WRONG, here now!

Paul, in 1 Cor 12:4-11 is talking about the distribution of gifts among believers. YOU HAVE TO HAVE FAITH IN GOD IN ORDER TO BE KNOWN AS A BELIEVER! ALL believers have faith in God, not just some as the passage says!

There is a gift of FAITH that some believers in the Body of Christ are given as a gift that sustains the body of Christ. And that is a "body protection mechanism" like all the other gifts that Paul speaks of. They are all pertaining to the Body of Christ. And in order to get into the body of Christ one must have FAITH in GOD!

So now, lets get back to the faith that man must have in order to get into the body of Christ, and it's source! Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God! ALL men, inherently have the ability to have faith in whatever they believe in. And every man can have faith in virtually thousands of objects of faith. But God in Exodus 20 tells man, "thou shall have no Gods before me", meaning, "you, you lowlife man, must not have faith in anything that is greater than your faith in ME!"

God created man with the ability to have faith, then tells man that the foremost object of faith that man is to have is God himself!

Oh my, it looks like I've just shot down another myth of Calvinism regarding "the gift of FAITH" from 1 Corinthians 12

It is extremely unfortunate that all too often the Faith that is the Gift of God is compared to the choices that people make in life. The argument is as follows:

“You are always exercising faith in your life, you couldn’t live a day without doing so. You exercise faith when you go out to start your car. You exercise faith when you board an airplane. You exercise faith when you sit in a chair, you exercise faith in your false god. Just as you trust that the car will start, the airplane will arrive safely, the chair won't collapse, your false god will answer your prayer: why don’t you trust Jesus Christ as Savior?”

In fact starting a car, boarding an airplane, or sitting in a chair have nothing to do with faith, rather they have to do with an understanding [to a greater or lesser degree] that the probability of the desired event will or will not happen [the plane won't crash because statistics predict otherwise, the car will start because I had it tuned up, the chair won't collapse because I don't weigh 500 #'s]. Believing that your false god will answer your prayer is delusion. Therefore, such a comparison of these so-called concepts of faith with the Faith that is the Gift of God is meaningless to say the least.

This is the scripture that Calvinist's say supports the idea that God gives man his faith. That is a myth!

Can you prove this by some Scripture you don't consider a myth?

Calvinism is a myth and its doctrines mythical!
