Where are you from originally? (When you grew up, perhaps with your parents) Did you leave home? The community? The state?

    Where did you settle?

Are you near your parents now?

I left Fluvanna County, Virginia to attend college, and I lived in Northern Virginia for 6 more years. I returned in 1990 on the whim of my ex, and that turned out to be a BLESSING.

I'm here for the duration. My father is still living (mother died suddenly in '95, keeping me from moving out of state) and doing well. My sister lives an hour away, and we are the ONLY nuclear family branch that has stayed close to each other.

Clint has an even better story, if he posts it!

    What's yours?

I was born and lived in Eureka!, California, then
moved to Jackson, Mississippi, for 3.5 years,
followed by Beaver Dam, Kentucky, for 9
months. After that, it was St. Louis, Missouri,
    for 6 years.

When I married the first time, we lived in the
Minneapolis area of Minnesota for 14.5 years,
with one year out of that to live in Laurel,
Maryland, while my husband was drafted into
the service. Seven years after he died, I moved
back home, with our children, to Eureka! I love
that place and would be there today if it were
possible. I love the redwoods, the ocean, the
fog, the even temperatures, the people.
Breathing is even different there: I tend to
breathe more deeply in Northern California than
anywhere else--to the point at which it is very
    noticeable.

When I remarried, however, I had to leave and
go to Washington State. I cannot say I like it
here. My family is great, as is my marriage, but
this area has brought much sorrow and
frustration. We are pretty much stuck here now,
so while I cannot say I like it, I have learned to
be content. Being kicked out of the church
here has helped tremendously, because the
frustration level bottomed out, and I am not
    sick all the time anymore.

Oh! My parents. They moved back to Missis-
ssipppi a nuumber of years ago, and Mother
    still lives there.

I currently live in the same city in which I was born. Really - I drive by the hospital every morning on my way to work!

However, I didn't grow up here. I lived in Richmond, VA, from the age of 7 until I was 17, when I went to college in the Shenandoahs. I did move back to Richmond, but then spent 4 years in North Carolina, and then moved up to MD.
I think I'll be staying in the DC metro area for some time. But I'm really not all that far from my "home" town of Richmond - about 3 hours on a good day.

I was born in Springfield, IL, moved to Carbondale IL when I was two, so my dad could finish his Ph.D., moved to Bethalto, IL at age 4. Lived there until I went away to college in Carbondale. Back to Bethalto for another 3 years then moved to Milwaukee, WI for 4 months, then to Rockford, IL for the last 13 years.

I have a sister that also ended up in Rockford, so I have family close by. My parents still live in Bethalto, but spend the winters in TX.

I moved about 20 miles from home when I married the first time at 19yrs. old. We moved back to our hometown after being 20 miles away for about a year. After the dissolutionment, I moved back home with mom and dad. Got remarried 5 years later, and bought a house on the next street over from my parents. My husband and I lived 5 houses between eachother all our lives and moved just one street over after we got married.

I was born in St. Louis, Mo; and attended school there. I was abandoned by my parents and left to take care of 4 brothers until we were finally caught by Welfare. I was only 4. (I have 1 set of twin brothers) I was awarded to the courts, and handed over to "Lutheran Chiildren Family Services". I lived in the orphanage and in many a foster home. I was beat'n and abused and sometimes left alone for long periods of time. I was put in closed boxes and closets for hours to stay on my knees at all times. Last foster home that adopted me...Well it was by that time, too late. I ran away to Venice, CA. I hitch-hiked to get there. I could have went to Woodstock but elected to go a way less obvious to the law. I stayed in California 4 months. ( now that is a witnessing story) I lived in Texas for 11 years, Michigan for 2 years, North Carolina for 1 year and then back to Missouri.

I did not met my mother until years later while pregnent with my third child. Again she caused me heartache after sheer misery. She tried to steal my kids from me...and made me feel almost as worthless as a person could feel. My father was an alcoholic. He spent years on Busch Beer and Scotch. He too was abusive to me. I was the oldest and only girl he had. He later in life had three more children whom he loved and adored.

I had already given myself to the Lord while living in NewArk, Texas; so I prayed. I then moved away from St. Louis. and traveled with my Kids.
I later moved back to Missouri...where I live 181 miles from St. Louis. Oh yeah....my mother does know where I live. She is just not allowed to come to my home or to my childrens. My father just doesn't care. I have learned forgiveness, and God has shown me peace. I hold no grudges and I pray for them.

I feel I am a better person for what I have gone through. Oh yeah....and neither parent was poor. They had lots of money, so poverty was never the issue. I am so glad God did not allow me to live their lifestyle. Or maybe I would have never known Him. I love God! :D He just makes me so happy inside.

So anyways....the answer is I live 181 miles from my mom. Praise God!

I was born in Hartford, Conn. Resided there in New England until I was 14 years old. There was a great park there in downtown Hartford called, "Bushnell Park"; It was a party spot! Not until in recent years did I learn who Bushnell was. Horace Bushnell was a puritan preacher! Just goes to show how times have changed huh?
Mom and Dad moved my 2 brothers and I to Margate, a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. My parents lived in the same home in Margate for 30 years this past March. I just recently purchased the home from them and they moved up to Boca Raton, Florida. So, today, here I sit in the home I grew up in! There is alot in between the lines "sort of speak."

I had a military career, both Air Force and Army. Have lived all over the country. Drove from Florida across the great divide to stay in Los Angeles for a stint. All the while God drew me back here where I started from.......go figure!

My family has lived in Georgia for 150 years. I have worked and attended school a couple of hours drive from my parents a few times for a few years at a stretch, but I ended up (for now) living about 20 miles away from them. I have applied for jobs in other states but it looks like I'm meant to be in Georgia for the time being. BTW, a summer in Colorado can convince any Southerner that we don't have the best weather there is. [IMG]

    Sherrie,

I can't believe you have actually heard of Bethalto much less actually know someone from there. To answer you question No I don't know Phil Warren or his brothers. It wouldn't suprise me if my Mom did know his family, your ex's uncle, and your neice, she seems to know everybody in town.

Well, I still live at home, and I love the town I live in. It's a nice size without being too big. I would like to stay here forever. My dad said "what if you find Mr. Right and he says 'let's move'" I said "I'll say, 'start packin'" :D

I was born in Enid, Oklahoma. My Dad worked for a construction company which built grain elevators and missle sites. So we moved a lot from 1955-1962. In 1962 we moved to Houston, Tx where I lived until 1978. My mother and dad divorced in 74 and my mom moved to Louisiana.
I lived a couple years in Louisiana. Less than a year in Oklahoma City, Less than a year in Lufkin, TX then moved to Dallas Fort Worth where I lived for 18 years. My mother and dad remarried in 82 and they lived in Houston while I lived in DFW.

All my childhood and teenage years I tried to get my mom and Dad to move back to Enid, Oklahoma because most of our family was in Oklahoma or Southern Kansas. They both said we will never move back to Enid ever. We will die in Houston.
Surprise, surprise but in 1991 my parents moved to Enid. I kind of felt cheated that they would not do that for me and my sister so we could have been raised around our aunts and uncles and cousins. The company my Dad worked for from 62 to 79 had a location in Enid and offered my Dad a foremans position there but he would not take it
    in 68.

Now I am living in Oklahoma because of my family and my wife's family is here.

I consider San Antonio my home, since I lived there from 1975-98(the only times I was away for an extended length was when I went to college in nearby San Marcos, and I came home quite alot during the school year and still spent my summers in San Antonio; and when during the summer of 1992 I worked at Ridgecrest). My dad was career Air Force, so San Antonio was his last tour of duty and he was able to retire there.

I was born in England in 1964. A year later we moved to Goldsboro, NC; then a year later to Bellvue, NE; then 3 years later we moved back to England, where we were for 6 years prior to moving to Texas.

When I left home in 1998, I moved to Dahlonega, GA. Nine months later I moved to Raleigh, NC(I was supposed to move to Montgomery, AL, where the woman I was going to marry lived; but 10 days before moving she broke up with me). After a little more than a year in the Raleigh area, I moved an hour or so down interstate 40 to Greensboro to resume my education. While at UNC-Greensboro, I was offered a teaching assistantship at Mississippi State University, so I naively took it. However, after two semesters I could not bring my gpa up to 3.0, so I was dismissed from the program. So on a whim I moved to Jackson, TN, where I am struggling to get my life back together as I speak.

The when my parents broke up my mom and me and my brother move back to Chicago. Then 22 1/2 years ago we all moved back to Ky. Been here ever since, my mom lives in the next town,4 miles away. My husband and I were both born and raised in the Youngstown, Ohio area.
He graduated from college a few months after we were married and we moved to Fresno, Calif. and stayed there for 14 years.
We're back in Ohio now, just a few hours drive from our parents. It is so nice to have the change of seasons and the green and real streams and fresh corn and tomatos :D Ahhhh!

I was born and raised in Worcester County. At 18 I joined the Navy, and literally have been everywhere. When I got out, I live in an efficiency apartment in Virginia Beach for about 6 months. I lived in Knoxville Tennessee for a bit, then Mt. Snow, Vermont for a few years. I spent 4 months in Inyokern California, then moved to Fredonia Arizona. Now I'm back in Worcester.
