    Barbarian observes:
You cannot serve God and the Republican (or Democratic) National Committee.

That's not what Jesus meant. He meant that you should give to God what is His, and give Ceasar that which is his. If your church endorses a political party or candidate, it has ceased to be a church, and is now serving a different master.

What He meant was you should serve God alone. If your church serves a political party, it is no longer a Christian church.

I'll be charitable and suppose that you are misrepresenting what I said, because you don't understand what Jesus meant by that.

    Barbarian observes:
If you love God, and do what's right, it won't matter if you believe that one is justified by works as well as faith, as God says in James.

James 2:24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

God doesn't save people who are excellent theologians. To learn how He will chose those who go with him, and those who will go with Satan, read Matthew 25:31-46.

So now "you" can serve both!
Your previous words: "You cannot serve God and the Republican (or Democratic) National Committee. "

Where does scripture say that? Churches-- that is, the people that make them up-- serve many 'masters;' social standing, business relationships, liking for ministers, the facilities. But where, scripturally, does a church cease to be a church if it has some bad perspectives?

Not according to Jesus. You can serve one Master. You decide by the Church you chose.

And Jesus, who said you can onlyi love one and hate the other. Obviously, He meant by one's religious beliefs.

If your church endorses a political party or candidate, it has ceased to be a church, and is now serving a different master.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, andl ove the other; or else he will hold to the one,and despise the other.

Barbarian on repeated misrepresentations of what he said:

They are apparently not good enough for you, or you would follow them.

Where have I stated that I attempt to serve God, political parties, both, or else?

I pointed out that Jesus said you can serve only one master. You've spent the rest of this thread trying to show He was wrong.

The pastor may be dead right on some things, maybe not on others.

For instance, his vision for the makeup of his church is faulty:

"In the end, those who left tended to be white, middle-class suburbanites, church staff members said. In their place, the church has added more members who live in the surrounding community — African-Americans, Hispanics and Hmong immigrants from Laos.

This suits Mr. Boyd. His vision for his church is an ethnically and economically diverse congregation that exemplifies Jesus’ teachings by its members’ actions."

If you 'give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's [as you said], how are you not serving 2 (at least) masters?

Giving to people what they are entitled is not making them your master.

How so? You are obligated to them, involuntarily or deliberately, so they are "entitled" to your possessions or your labor.
