You say God will not make perfect creatures 'as He is perfect', for to do so would be blasphemy.

What do you do with this verse then?

1 John 3:1. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

We will be LIKE Him.
</font>
Read Bob's post. He said it well.
Now read the last statement of this quote of yours; it also says it well.
We will be LIKE Him

The word "like" indicates a simily. It means: as, similar to, has the likeness of, etc.
It does not mean "exactly the same." God never promised to make a duplicate of Himself, or in your case (one who denies the deity of Christ), a duplicate of Christ. He never promised that to anyone. There is no Scripture that promises us a perfect body in the modern sense of the word.

God can make a perfect human being. God started his creation of man in the Garden of Eden. We have been redeemed. The Redemption of the body is the completion. Jesus Christ makes all things new. He is the last Adam. There is only one God. We were made to know, love, and worship God in this world and the next. The Creator can make a perfect creation. The new heavens and the new earth will be perfect.

"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind. Isaiah 65:17

"For just as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I make will endure before Me," declares the LORD, "So your offspring and your name will endure." Isaiah 66:22

"But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells." 2 Peter 3:13

The only One that stands in absolute perfection is God. He does not or will not duplicate himself. To think say that he will is blasphemous. God alone, and only Him is perfect; none else.

Now if you go to a Greek lexicon, as I have advised you many times over, and look the word up, you find that perfect means complete or mature. The Old English word perfect meant complete or mature, as it does in the Greek. When God creates something He doesn't do a half-baked job. He completes it. His work is complete. He created all things in six days and rested on the seventh. In six days it was complete.
Perfection as in flawlessness, belongs only to God.

At the Redemption of the body we will be perfect. We will be complete then. There is nothing in Holy Scripture about our us being made flawed for all eternity. God is the Creator. We are the creations. We are also His children. His sons and daughters. Jesus Christ's brothers and sisters. At the Redemption of the body we will be made complete human beings. Jesus Christ makes all things new, a new heaven and a new earth.

"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind. Isaiah 65:17

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” Revelation 21:1

2 Corinthians 5:17
If then any be in Christ a new creature, the old things are passed away, behold all things are made new.

The ultimate completion for man is this:

21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. John 17 :21

Colossians 3:14
and above all these things, [have] love, which is a bond of the perfection,

We will not be perfect Gods. God is not duplicating Himself, as you keep trying to say I am saying, We will be perfect human beings. Not diseased, or flawed. We will spend eternity knowing, loving, and serving Him. God is the Creator and only God knows what perfect and complete will mean for us.

You will be complete. You will not be perfect. Nothing in the Bible says you will be perfect. If you would be perfect you would be God. That is what Lucifer strived to be, and thus was kicked out of heaven. Of course he could never in his deceived mind attain perfection. Only God is perfect. To claim that you will be perfect is blasphemous, for it is to claim that you will be God.

The Bible says you will be redeemed, you will be made complete, you will be like Him; BUT you will not be an exact perfect replica of God. You will not be perfect in other words; only complete.

No red herrings please.
We are speaking of the resurrected body which will stand in the presence of a holy perfect God.
Will that body be perfect as God is perfect?
Will that body be omniscient as God is omniscient?
Will that body be omnipresent as God is omnipresent?
Will that body be omnipotent as God is omnipotent?

If the answer is no (and it is), then the resurrected body will not be perfect.
It will be complete, as promised, but not perfect.

No red herrings here DHK. The question of this thread is "Do Christians become perfect with the resurrection of the dead?" Not, do we become God.

The answer is yes we will be perfect Christians, perfect human beings, knowing loving and serving God for all eternity. Complete with body and soul.

No one is comparing what our perfect will be against what God's perfect is. We are not God. The question of my thread here is "Do Christians become perfect with the Resurrection of the Dead?".

Our soul will be given our new glorified body. We will not be God. We will be a perfect “person” if you like that word better. We will be perfect Christians knowing, loving, and serving God for all eternity.

Jesus Christ is true God and true man, and is perfect. He knows what a perfect man is. He shows us what we will become. Holy Scripture tells us Jesus Christ is the new Adam. This does not mean we will become God. We will be perfect persons. Jesus Christ Redeemed us by His blood on the cross. The redemption of the body makes us complete and perfect Christians, able to know, love, and serve God for all eternity.

I have some non-Catholic Christian friends over this week and this exchange has been eye-openning to them to say the least. I think we will have to agree to disagree here. I am glad you admit this is your own interpretation and not Baptist belief.

The answer to your question is an obvious no. There is only one who is perfect; that is God. Jesus said to the rich young ruler, "Why callest thou me good, there is none good but one, that is God." There is one that is perfect--that is God.

You have given no Scriptural evidence that we will be perfect--none. It is blasphemy to say that we will be perfect, for God alone is perfect.

Since when in the dictionary does "new" mean "perfect?" Just because something is new does not make it perfect. In the last verse you quoted, when I became a new creature in Christ, when I was saved, that did not make me a perfect person--it only gave me a new nature.

No where does Scripture indicate that we will become perfect. Our bodies will be redeemed, and thus we will be complete, but not perfect.

I said what I said because I have never taken a poll on the subject. I also said if you want to know what other Baptists believe ask them. I would venture to say that most of them would agree with me just like Bob Ryan came out and said he did. I would also venture to say that you can't back up what you are saying with your own catechism, and this is just your own personal interpretation. In fact most Catholics on this board will probably disagree with you. That being the case you are the one practicing soul liberty here.

Adam and Eve were "perfect" - flawless in every aspect. God created them - and stated that His creation was very good. They fell from that perfect and holy state of being. They were human beings when first created - and they continued to be human beings even after choosing sin and rebellion.

Today - mankind is fallen. Not perfect as when God created us in His image - "in the beginning" on the sixth day of Creation week.

Now - this side of glorification we "see in a glass darkly" but THEN - at the return of Christ and the "redemption of the body" we will see - face to face. For NOW we walk by FAITH and NOT by sight.

In Christ,

Bob

The Catholic encyclopedia speaks of restoration, not perfection. Though it may use the word "perfect" occasionally, it no where intimates that we shall have a perfect body as Christ is perfect or be perfect as God is perfect such as you have been claiming.
The Catholic encyclopedia puts an emphasis on restoration, not perfection. Then it gives three characteristics which our resurrected bodies will have. Not one of those characteristics is perfection.

DHK: It can't get much clearer. Yes, it does go on to speak of this restoration at the Resurrection of the Body.

St. Thomas Aquinas also says:
"Since then at the resurrection it behooves man's body to correspond entirely to the soul, for it will not rise again except according to the relation it bears to the rational soul, it follows that man also must rise again perfect, seeing that he is thereby repaired in order that he may obtain his ultimate perfection..

</font>
I did not find anything about Thomas Aquinas's quote in the link you provided, and even if I did, it would simply be his opinion if not Biblically supported. I did find some of the information provided a bit humorous in that it dealt with information in a speculative way, and no doubt more contrary to the Bible, then in accord with it. Read it again.
The link says: "Not all parts of the body will be raised from the dead."
Now if thet doesn't get into some rather mindless speculation, I don't know what does.
If you don't have all your "parts" I guess you won't be perfect will you? [IMG]

Good try! But, St. Thomas Aquinas is answering objections to the Resurrection:

"I answer that, As stated in De Anima ii, 4, "the soul stands in relation to the body not only as its form and end, but also as efficient cause." For the soul is compared to the body as art to the thing made by art, as the Philosopher says (De Anim. Gener. ii, 4), and whatever is shown forth explicitly in the product of art is all contained implicitly and originally in the art. In like manner whatever appears in the parts of the body is all contained originally and, in a way, implicitly in the soul. Thus just as the work of an art would not be perfect, if its product lacked any of the things contained in the art, so neither could man be perfect, unless the whole that is contained enfolded in the soul be outwardly unfolded in the body, nor would the body correspond in full proportion to the soul. Since then at the resurrection it behooves man's body to correspond entirely to the soul, for it will not rise again except according to the relation it bears to the rational soul, it follows that man also must rise again perfect, seeing that he is thereby repaired in order that he may obtain his ultimate perfection. Consequently all the members that are now in man's body must needs be restored at the resurrection. "

Honestly Kathryn,
I had to laugh out loud when I read that link. "Entrails??" Did it ever occur to you that Jesus in his resurrected body ate fish with his disciples. How about the angels that accompanied our Lord to visit Abraham and went on to Sodom? Or the fallen angels in Genesis 6, what was the result of their sexual union with the daughters of men?
The Bible says that they are not given in marriage; it does not say that their bodies are incomplete. That is just pure speculation.
Regarding "entrails" I expect to be at the marriage supper of the Lamb; a feast. I don't know every thing about the resurrection body, but enough to know that what is contained in that link, that it doesn't make a lot of sense. The Bible does say our resurrected bodies will be complete.
By agreeing with the Catholic Church's stand in that post, you are simply saying that we will not have perfect bodies--we will be missing parts that will not be resurrected. What a hoot!!
