I keep hearing that this is a "debate board," as justification for rudeness.

This board presents itself as representing Christians, and it presents itself as representing Baptists.

I, for one, don't want to be represented by a LOT of what I see here.

So, if "being a debate" board justifies unChrist Like behavior please remove the names "Christian" or "Baptist" from the name of the board.

I know this will cause a banning.
But, I'm tending to lean toward "Shaking the dust off my feet," anyway.

God bless the Christians who ARE here.
There HAS to be a better way to serve Christ than this.

Not being rude, bro, just stating a fact. Debate is not "unChristian". It is debate. Duh.

Now, I DO agree that the name-calling and whining, etc, is not good form in debate. The ad hominems outnumber the valid points a hundred to one. But to many people that IS "debate".

And for many doctrial positions, there IS no "evidence", so snidity [is that a word?] becomes the only source of argument.

umm, yeah, I don't see this place as a way to serve Christ. For me, it at times is a way to LEARN a little bit, to sharpen some of my viewpoints, and so on....but this isn't serving Christ, unless you are helping someone in a counselling situation.

Ya get any group of people together and you will have all sorts of differing opinions and differing mannerisms, some of which do not mesh well together.

Then there are those who just really enjoy sarcasm. [IMG]

    Texas,
to be specific to your OP question, yes I think labels are necessary for many things. Humans think categorically, and we need to be able to let others know who we are and what we are intending in certain situations. A "debate forum" named as such, is an attempt to be honest about what will be happening in that area.

True, "debate" around some people is never safe. But then again, debate can be a time when both sides learn, when you learn how to present yourself well so that you can answer when "any man asks of you a reason for your faith."

There are some debate areas I won't go around much, if at all.....like the versions one. I find that most people in there are highly derogatory and demeaning towards those who hold my view. But, they find that to be an important issue in their life, so they tend to be more pointed, and I think we all tend to "judge" others more harshly based on our own "pet issues."

[Edited By Frogman]So I try to stay away from those issues now because I know I get too heated and people tend to take me wrong....especially when its an area where they are also oversensitive.

People come and people go, especially the ones who seem to stir up trouble. They stay awhile and then move on.

    One of His, and Thankful,

Im sorry if you've not found anything Ive ever said to be worthwhile. But I most certainly did not come here to cause trouble! How did this get turned into a place where it was ok to be nasty to me?

    Oh, dear, Bapmom,

I was not referring to you and I apologize.

I was actually referring to this post of people coming and going.

I was actually referring to this post about problems and people leaving left and right.

So please forgive me bapmon, if you thought I was referring to you. I actually, in part, agree with you.

People don't get banned for no reason. They have to do something and continue to do it and refuse to stop, whatever it is. I haven't seen anyone get banned recently so I don't know who you might be talking about. And recently there have been people returning, since it's more peaceful now.

Personal attacks are against BB rules you know.

    Thank you, Sue, for explaining.

It does seem like gossip when one talks about a banning that we know nothing about.

Yes, labels are needed and they do matter.
    Just think of a few,
    christian/muslim/hindu
seems to matter there which label you have

    law abiding citizen/criminal law breaker
yep, it matters which label you have

    So which labels don't matter?

This is a debate forum, and debating isn't always friendly, but it should never be in a mean spirit. But human beings are imperfect, all human beings are imperfect. Just as daily people look over your faults, you must over look theirs, God isn't done with any of us yet, if He were we'd be dead and in heaven. And we have no idea where each person is in their walk, or where God is working with them, the changes made in us are made by God not us.

While people should not be rude to one another, this is a debate forum. It serves a purpose, to deal with issues and sharpen our understanding, even though we may not agree on all things. If the truth be told I find this latest line of topics about treatment, unfairness and un-Christian attitudes on this board to be on the whining side. If you dont want to go by the rules, if you dont want to debate, if you feel you are not being treated fairly, you have the option to leave.
