Do you ever travel alone by car for long distances? How do you make the trip shorter and more tolerable?

Other than music and singing songs in the car, I usually think, daydream, and once in a while take a nap.

Good preaching tapes and talk radio both help for me, better yet if interspersed with music.

Sometimes I have a short temper behind the wheel, a fit of anger here and there keeps things lively. :D :D

Do you take a nap while you drive, or do you stop?

A little of both, but the naps when I stop are more restful.

I have taken many lengthy trips alone by car. Playing music does not help me much. Preaching/teaching or dramatic tapes are a little better, but becoming disinterested can bring my alertness level down further than it would be without playing them at all.

One time it helped very much that I had an audio microsette player/recorder with me, and I simply 'discussed' some points of dilemma which were on my mind at the time. This tape later was the basis for an article I submitted on How God Speaks to Us Today. There were a lot of thoughts and illustations I seemed to come by naturally as I passed the hills, the cattle herds, the clouds, the rising of the moon.... The time went by surprisingly fast.

Music on tape and CD are great. My favorite pasttime while driving is SEEING HOW MANY CARS I CAN PASS BETWEEN THE PA AND VA LINE!!!

I don't like driving for long distances alone. I get lonely :( So, I take a friend. On our last trip, my friend and my sister both went to sleep  so, I made up a song to sing to myself while I drove.

Monday I drove to Nashville (8 hours) by myself, and today, I drove back from Nashville. By myself.

I had the best time. Seriously, this was the shortest 8 hours I spent in a long time--God and I talked about a lot of things. .. God is so good. ...

I take long trips (10-12 hours) in my Jeep. The AM radio went out a long time ago, and couple of years ago the tape player quit working. I "keep meaning to sell" this car, so I have had neither fixed.

It took a couple of trips to get used to it, but now I just sit and think. It does me good, I think.
