I remember when the bobbies didn't carry guns either, and a criminal who dared to use a gun would be reported by other criminals.

The Gun Control Act, which was a Federal Bill, never caught on by the provinces, so they wasted millions on a useless Bill.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I own several (groups). When the Clintonistas were in power, I bought firearms for my sons so that when they were old enough they would own them legally. They were appreciative of it as well. My family shot handguns with regularity and we all carry (legal) now. My boys learned at an early age what firearms could do and they were allowed to shoot with supervision anytime they could. The mystery of firearms was not present in our home but the respect for firearms was established very early.

We even have an informal church gun club and anyone can attend; we will even supply the firearms and instruction for any newbies. The range is exclusive to us twice monthly at no charge (other than ammo) because the owner gets a kick out of closing early for the church gun club. He said several folks guessed it must be Baptist. LOL

I wholeheartedly agree that if you are going to carry you need to practice regularly. (monthly would be a minimum)

    Lebuick said
"I doubt it, the ban hasn't taken one gun off the street because the people with the guns are the criminals. Giving the non-criminals legal guns will only cause more innocent people to get caught in the crossfire. I hope I'm wrong but that's how I see it."

Doubt all you want but the results are already in. When honest citizens are not denied their right to carry and own firearms, the crime rates go down. Many major cities have proven this within the last 20 years.

P.S. Nobody has said that all people should have firearms. Only honest, law abiding, stable citizens (non-felons) should have or use firearms.

I have a Ruger Mark I target pistol (.22) that I inherited from my father. I bought a Sig P250 earlier this year in 9mm. I'll probably get the conversion kit to shoot 40 S&W when they become available.

Tomorrow evening, I will pick up my new Mossberg 590A1 12-guage shotgun at my local gun shop. I had to special order it last week.

The men (and some women) in my Sunday School class go shooting at least once a month, and I tend to go two to three times a month.

I'm planning to get my conceal carry license ASAP. If the Obama/Biden team gets into power, it may get tough to get a license.

    I have a Ruger Blackhawk 357 cal, a 12 gauge, a 30-06, and a M-1 Carbine. I plan on getting a 20 gauge next (or a compound bow).

I had a chance to shoot my new Mossberg 590A1 at the nearby indoor range. I've never fired a shotgun indoors, so it was a new and exciting experience.

That Mossberg is a much finer shotgun than I realized when I ordered it. It is built like a tank and operates cleanly. I put a Knoxx Special Ops stock on it so I can quickly shorten the stock so my wife can shoot it easily. She's only 4'11", but she's deadly accurate with a 12-gauge.

"Have Gun, Will Travel"* I am very accurate with it. I can still hit a golf ball off a fence post from 50 yards out. (Even though I am getting to the point that I can not see the sight at the end of the barrel). I think that it is time to see the eye Dr. for shooting glasses.

*HGWT is in reference to an old tv western starring Richard Boone. It is in no way an advertisement for hire.

BTW Jim, you are very wrong about gun ownership. God, Guns and Guts are what have kept America strong and free. This is why the attacks on our society are always aimed at one of those three American truisms.

I own a shotgun and a hunting rifle. Haven't had the opportunity to use either one in years. I would never own a handgun.

May I ask why you would never own a handgun? I'm just curious as to your reasoning.

Just curious also, why would you never own a hand-gun?

You know, BB's right about the above.

However, I got my permit some 10 years ago, but have NEVER carried. Wanted the permit "just in case--"!

I plan on purchasing a handgun in a couple of years. In my opinion, my kids are a bit too young for me to be comfortable with a handgun in the house (precautions in keeping it "safe" make it difficult to be usable).

Some of you may approach it differently...but hey, we do what we think is best for the kiddos.

My husband is a concealed weapons permit holder, and yes, he does, because he is on the road a lot in his job, and he is in desolate places as a result.

I took the concealed weapons carry class, passed the test, and I could apply, but I don't. Don't ask me why, I don't know.

I FBI qualified with a shotgun years ago at work. I have been a police dept employee for 23 years. Knowing the ins and outs of the criminal world makes me think that all law-abiding citizens should own at least one gun for protection - and should be well trained and even tempered.

now that Barack is probably going to be president in the next term and will likely have a senate and house that is also against your gun rights, you might want to look hard at going ahead and getting it. I'll bet the next few years are going to real bad for the second amendment. Just a thought.

Yes, I own a gun. Now that the obomination is president, I plan to hurry up and get my concealed carry permit before it becomes impossible to get one.
