A.H. Strong of Rochester University was post-millennial and was also an advocate of Theistic evolution. Otherwise a sound Baptist textbook on Baptist theology.

In England, the uprise of dispensationalism and that brand of premillennialism, was attributed to the Plymouth Brethren. They also introduced a different brand of Calvinism where foreknowledge became the key to God's doctrines of election and predestination. Because many PB's went to Baptist churches, this theology spread all over England and eventually to America.

The British Baptist Union, under which I was schooled, was postmillennial, but then, it was largely liberal in theology. The London Bible College, however, which was a school under the Union, was basically historic premillennial.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Found the information in this post very interesting and helpful.

Jim, wasn't A.W. Pink originally from the Plymouth Brehtren? I may be wrong, but I think he was, just wondering, I believe he wrote in his work Sovereignty of God that election wasn't based on the foreknowledge of God. If I am wrong on either or both correct me.

Also, I thank God for my being led to the BB. Two years ago when I first connected to the Web I typed in Baptist in the Address Bar and found the BB, BaptistTop??? and The Hall of Church History. I think this is a great service, but I must learn to balance my time away from the Cal/Arm. forum, I believe I was starting to go to seed down there.

Here in the History forum I would only inform you all that I am Premil. I have a Scofield Bible also, but I don't pay any attention to his footnotes any more, found that he is not unlike myself--if you know what I mean.

I would, as you know, say that there is some Biblical ground that the Lord will rapture his church. Nonetheless, I am not here to argue this point, at least not now.

Just wanted to say this post has been very enjoyable to read.

Is it too dispensationalist to ask if perhaps God is nearing the end of his purpose for our nation?

    Just a thought.

    God Bless.
