Was talking with a unbeliever the other day. Was telling him about the church I just left and he thought they were way too rigid. I agreed and said that fundamentalists are like that in general but conservative Christians are not. Nothing wrong with drinking alcohol, rock music, not dressing business professional, and the like.

But the real question is does being too rigid impact the gospel?

First of all, always be careful about talking down about any evangelical church!

    Let me translate this:

"Does being against everything I personally like to do, impact the gospel?"

I have good reasons why I left a church a couple of years ago - yet I NEVER speak negative about that church- to most people. And the only ones I do mention it to, are those I am close with and then only for a valid reason.

The good news is that I am very humble at the new church since I have much to learn and they are so bible based and can teach me much.

"Too rigid" often translates to unloving. Unloving can definitely impact how the gospel message is communicated.

But then again - it also determined by how it is received.
If a church /pastor preaches on Hell - some will see that as unloving.

Too "anything" can impact the efforts to spread the gospel: too rigid, too loose, too formal, too informal, too much legalism, too much licentiousness, too much emphasis on evangelism and not enough on discipleship and vice versa, too much emphasis on the basics and not enough on the meat of the Word, too much generalization and not enough specificity, too much specificity and not enough general and foundational basics.

Churches - all churches - can engorge themselves on too much of anything.

The problem is that we all are in different places and different walks. Sometimes we have to leave a church that is swelling itself with "too much" of one thing at the expense of all the rest that the church is called to do.

Unless another church is in sin and open violation of the Word - such as teaching a works based doctrine or ordaining a homosexual as a deacon - I just cannot very easily judge if that church is into "too much" of something.

Sorry guys but the op is not a sincere question. You all have been played. What it is, is an opportunity to accuse those who do not agree with some habits of Evan, of standing in the way of the gospel because you do not like to drink, listen to rock music, dress professional etc.

I do not know about that, but I am sure that being stubborn and unwilling to take godly advice does.

Actually, I had a few others on this site in my mind.

Your problem is that you ask advice on all kinds of subjects (evangelism, church, marriage, alcohol, etc.), pick the answers that agree with your already-formed opinions, then discount the rest as stupid. When you get yourself into trouble, you ask for more advice, and you do the same thing. Over and over.

It is telling of the good character of many on this site that they have been as patient as they have with you instead of writing you off. You need to learn to appreciate that.

This is a debate board. I do not ask for advice on the subject of alcohol.
