Donald Trump’s ‘Locker Room Talk’ Was the Last Straw for Many Young Voters

When Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. appeared on television this week to say Donald Trump deserves forgiveness forboasting about groping women, what students at the Christian university heard was ambivalence to “an atrocity which plagues college campuses across America.” And when advocates listened to Trump’s dismissal of his lewd comments as “locker room talk,” they recognized a familiar and “deeply concerning” pattern of denial that perpetuates what has become known as rape culture.

Waves of campus protest over sexual assault in recent years have made millennials more aware of the problem, and those young voters, with whom Trump was already struggling, have been among his most vocal detractors over the last week week. A recent Quinnipiac University pollfound Trump trailing among likely voters aged 18-34, 48% to 27%. That was before multiple women this week accused Trump of kissing or touching them inappropriately without their consent. Trump denied the accusations as “totally and absolutely false” on Thursday.

Taken together, the developments have made for a collision between the presidential election and the conversations percolating on college campuses across the country.

“Any faculty or staff member at Liberty would be terminated for such comments, and yet when Donald Trump makes them, President Falwell rushes eagerly to his defense—taking the name ‘Liberty University’ with him,” a group of Liberty students said in a statement on Wednesday, denouncing Trump and his association with their school. “‘We’re all sinners,’ Falwell told the media, as if sexual assault is a shoulder-shrugging issue rather than an atrocity which plagues college campuses across America, including our own.”

Sofie Karasek, co-founder of the advocacy group End Rape on Campus, said attempts to discredit or intimidate accusers speak to the “culture of fear” surrounding assault. But she said she’s heartened by the cultural shift, especially among young people, toward taking survivors seriously.

“We have really had a quite a number of moments over the past couple of years where we’ve had a conversation about sexual violence that the country really hasn’t seen before,” she said in an interview, referring to high-profile campus activism. “People have started to pay attention to this issue in ways that they haven’t before.”

True for those who are not suspicious of the convenience of all these allegations with no witness support along with the glee of the majority Marxist press.

On the other hand there is the continuous "leaking" of Wikileaks which will impact the Hillary side.

Deny, deny, deny on both sides. Of course.

The overall general disgust for both candidates will be resolved by those who turnout for the election for which statistic is a guessing game.

My gut feeling is that Hillary will win because our majority Marxist press is on her side, however no one, repeat... no one knows the impact of cable, YouTube and the internet upon the general election. Including the deplorables, those who cling to their guns and bibles, the vast right wing conspiracy members, etc.

Another unknown variable: Most Polls are taken on landline telephones, of which a large sector of the population no longer have but cell phones only.

Only November 8th will reveal the true will of the people.

I have little doubt that if we could hear the private talk between many (not all) politicians we trust we would be offended.

Or even public talk like what Dick Cheney told Pat Leahy to do.

I doubt if locker room talk per se turns off millennials. They may not like Trump, but millennials are much more prone to using swear words.

"Gen X and Baby Boomers are more likely to feel the taboo against bad language...while 45 percent of millennials said it makes no difference at all."

Are you saying that Trump, a chronic liar, a womanizer, a cheat, a person who does not pay his bills, a person who sexually harasses women is a Christian?

Would you say that Hillary, an enabler who demonizes and destroys reputations of women her husband has cheated on her with -- in some cases as reported by the female victims, by forcing himself on them -- is a Christian?

What's wrong with some of y'all? Who cares about when the "allegations" were released? If he hadn't done it, there wouldn't be anything to come out.

Y'all act like that because somebody used it as a political weapon that it somehow discredits the reality of what he has done again and again and again.

Seriously? Have you seen and heard what the nominee of the GOP has been saying and doing, and you've got the unmitigated gall to speak to someone about choosing a candidate and party being anti-Christian?

Now I truly know that some of you have lost the last of the good sense that God has given you and that there is really something wrong with a lot of folks who call themselves Christians in this country. SMH.

If you or any other Christian support that man, you have ZERO credibility or platform from which to speak to anyone about morality or ANYTHING about Christ.

    ZERO!

You can put your excuses in a box and regift them under a tree later this December. Christians with God sense aren't accepting it.

Every politician didn't act like this. Every politician didn't admit to assaulting women. Every politician didn't brag about his ability to assault women.

The lot of you are beginning to sound as disgusting as he is.

Save this foolishness!!! Ain't nobody buying these weak attempts to rewrite the narrative. As much as y'all want this to be about some bad words, you ALL know that's not what this is really about. The words just highlighted that this man admitted...bragged that he is a predator and has preyed on several women.

Millennials know what sexual assault is.

Yep. No disagreements. But ain't too many Christians attempting to make excuses for the candidate who supports baby murder. But they can't seem to make them fast enough for the one who probably is okay with baby murder, and is okay with adultery, sexual assault, lying, gambling, stealing, pornography, pride, greed and the rejection of Jesus Christ.

Go figure. And they think anyone thinks they REALLY care about baby murder while turning a blind eye to all that other stuff.

    Pure foolishness.

Zaac IMO you have a warped sense of values. To murder a helpless baby in the womb with no one to come to its rescue is the epitome of wickedness.

Trump and Pence have promised to come to their rescue.

Try to control yourself Zaac. CTB posted an argument that Trump will lose the youth vote based on his language. I put up a counter argument, based on a study by Bloomberg News. You don't like it? argue with them.

    Hank

That's your OPINION. In accordance with God's WORD, it's you and all these others who seem to think that abortion, the SCOTUS, or any other issue of the day is more important than Jesus Christ and pointing folks to salvation in Him.

    It's idolatry.

By continuing to affirm that man and his wickedness just because you think Clinton's pro-abortion stance is the worst of the worst, you and so many others have made very clear what means the most to ya. And that clearly is not Jesus Christ and maintaining the platform that He gave us to witness.

And it's just sad to see so many folks feeling like they are doing God a favor by doing things their way instead of His.

God's way to handle abortion is by making disciples who make disciples.

You and thousands and hundreds of thousands have made it clear that you think the way is a ridiculously wicked man.

And it is perhaps why you WILL have 8 more years and then some of what you say you don't want.

    We fully deserve it.

Not only that but these folk are really pro-birth, not pro-life. They never mention and get testy when others mention the teachings of Christ on how we are to treat and care for each other.

Remember the final judgment as described in Matthew. No mention of abortion, but hunger, sicknesss, prison, etc. are all mentioned.
