If ther was a way to accommodate a physically disabled person to serve, let 'em serve. Currently, most disabilities preclude service, but if that changes in the future, that's wonderful.

But that's exactly it. It hasn't been shown to be a problem so far. If it turnes out to be a problem, and there's no solution, then fine, keep 'em out.

I have no problem with homosexuals serving in the military as long as they keep their sex lives to themselves - the same as it should be at any workplace. I don't go around talking about my heterosexuality and I expect the same behavior from everyone else.

I concur with Ken. As noted earlier, I think everyone in the military should accept that fornication of any kind is grounds for dishonorable discharge, whether one is homosexual or heterosexual.

Department of Defense regulations state that volunteers who test positive for HIV are ineligible for induction. Period. Along with those who test positive of syphilis or who have a host of other diseases.

The Army regulations are that "HIV-infected soldiers will not be deployed or assigned overseas. Soldiers confirmed to be HIV-infected while stationed overseas will be reassigned to the United States ...
    b. In the United States (including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico), HIV-infected soldiers will not be assigned to - (1) Any Table of Organization and Equipment (TOE) or Modified Table of Organization and Equipment (MTOE) unit ... " (Essentially, a unit that is operational and deployable.)

The Army has had a testing and evaluation program since the mid-1980s and, in fact, has been a leader in the field. I once attended the court martial of a soldier who was sent to prison because he had tested postive for HIV and disobeyed a direct order not to engage in dangerous behavior.

I think this is wildly unrealistic. The armed forces have enough to do without policing activity that is not prejudicial to good order and discipline.

Again, I think this is unrealistic. To think that heterosexual soldiers "keep their sex lives to themselves" is off the mark. The Army isn't the bastion of machismo it once was, but they ain't all shrinking violets, either.

If your homo, don't go, if you do, better
keep it to you. I served in the Navy
for 5 years and if I served with a homo
I didn't know about it, but chances are
I did and it would have been a very wise
thing not to tell anybody. Also being
an Army Brat and being raised on or near
military bases I can tell you, it didn't
    get told then either.

I don't like that the word Gay = Homosexual.
I remember when gay was not related to it,
and you didn't tell then either.

    Respectfully,

    Johnny
