Was Dr. Schofield divorced and remarried? The Schofield of the Schofield Bible. Thanks for your reply and if you could give documentation I would appreciate it. Tex

I will do a search to find this information. It is on the www.

I read it some time back shortly after gaining access to the grand highway of knowledge.

Yes. Scofield was married and to the best of my ability in memory he had a daughter from that marriage.

He was subject to drinking and an alcoholic. His wife left him and later divorced him. All this prior to his experience of grace as I understood the article and prior to his study Bible was published.

I believe he also later remarried. I will try to do a search to provide the source for this. This is odd, most baptists though I understand not all, would refuse Scofield an ordained position in the church, but they teach from his Bible.

According to scripture, ordained men are to be apt to teach... [IMG]

C I Scofield has come in for a lot of unfair criticism in recent years for his alleged dishonesty and corrupt dealings. However, I don't agree with this as, before conversion, we all did things of which we are now ashamed.

It is the easiest thing in the world to condemn a man who has been dead for 80 years because he is not alive to defend himself.

If he really was the charlatan that some claim then why did a number of highly respected Evangelical leaders endorse the study Bible that bears his name?

I don't know, I have wondered the same thing. By the way, I use Scofield's Old Study Bible, have one of the 'new' study Bibles and each of my sons have a Scofield. One the 'first' edition and the other a 1917 edition.

I am not condemning him for anything.

Don't forget that even charlatans and cheats might have something worth consideration. Consider David, Paul, Solomon, Peter ... just to name a few. Truth is truth irrespective of its source.

I'm sure Scofield's divorce and remarriage left it's share of scars on his immediate family. But IMHO, his study Bible has brought about much more confusion in the church.

I'm not one to do ad hominems, I just think his theology was off.
